Hi All,

Does anyone know if the money from the EV car tab fee has contributed to an increase in charging infrastructure? I haven't heard anything since the bill was passed in 2019.
According to a Seattle Times article, "The new fee will pay for several electric-car incentives. Proponents intend to fill gaps in the statewide charging networks, to help overcome so-called “range anxiety” with an e-fueling station every 40 to 70 miles on major highways."

It would be good to have some visibility into how the money is being spent.

Thanks,
Ericka

I posted an inquiry earlier this month on the SEVA list about that very same deal.  Some answers to this very question are posted in the responses.

"What the detractors and critics of electric vehicles have been saying for
years, is true. The electric vehicle is not for everybody, given the limited
range it can only meet the needs of 90% of the population."

Here's a summary of the State's spending plan and accomplishments to date.  I think that the state isn't doing enough to at least require prominent signage that the charging stations were paid for in part by owner registration fees.
Nobody using the DC Fast Chargers at America's Car Museum would have a clue that our registrations helped pay for it, but as I recall, it was the first such site to go live.  We were there with the governor for a press conference and ribbon cutting a couple of years ago.

I think during our previous discussion, we discovered that much of the money from this fee was being spent on projects that have nothing to do with improving the charging infrastructure for those paying the fee.  Like paying for an EVSE for the Guemes Island ferry.
