I was wondering how direct sales of EVs are handled if the new EV you are buying is not exempt from the WA restrictions on direct sales from auto makers. The state recently the state passed legislation allowing a few more makers the exemption they gave Tesla a few years earlier. However, this doesn’t help me.

How did a Rivian or Lucid purchase work BEFORE the recent expansion of this exemption?

Thank you,
Paul G.

Thanks for asking, Paul. You still can buy an EV from automakers other than Tesla, Lucid and Rivian that don't have dealerships in Washington. You will need to order your car and do all the financing and registration paperwork online. Some will deliver to you. Others will have you go pick up the car. What make and model are you considering?
