Seattle Electric Vehicle Association
May 12, 2026 meeting minutes

SEVA President Stephen Johnsen called the meeting to order at Revolve Motors in Renton.

GASOLINE NEWS - Stephen noted that the current high price of gasoline compared to the low cost of electricity makes a big difference for drivers. California prices are ranging $7 to more than $9 for diesel.

ICING -  Stephen reported he recently encountered a Tesla Model 3 and a Nissan Leaf parked in front of charging stations but not plugged in at a Fred Meyer in Vancouver. He reminded SEVA members that blocking a charging station, referred to as ICEing when done with an internal combustion engine vehicle, is against the law in Washington, and that violators, even if they are driving EVs, are subject to a fine.

NEW to SEVA - Mike learned about SEVA at the April Earth Day event at Bellevue College, He once drove a Honda Insight, but now has moved on to a Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, a Ford Lightning and a Brightdrop van.

FOR SALE - Dave Barden and Craig Painter acquired a 2013 Leaf that was in a T-bone accident, and it has some tech issues, but it’s still drivable, and the battery pack still has 20 of 24kWh capacity.

CHINESE EVs - Stephen shared photos from his brother’s trip to Shenzhen of the inexpensive models and new tech available there. Tariffs are keeping Chinese EVs out of the U.S., although they are now being shipped to Canada and Mexico.

REVOLVE MOTORS UPDATE - Former SEVA President Jay Donnaway hosted the meeting at Revolve Motors, where he now is working as tech in the service department. He explained that the independent EV sales and service business, formerly known as Eco Auto Northwest, recently cut ties with Eco Auto and rebranded as Revolve Motors. He’s focusing on refurbishing batteries and motors and fixing Model 3 and Y suspensions. Revolve is hosting a Community night on May 21.

FORD MUSTANG COBRAJET 2200 - Stephen shared photos and stories about the production and record-breaking racing of Ford's new Cobrajet 2200, which was built in Seattle at MLe Racecars, with help from some SEVA members. On April 24, the car debuted at zMAX Dragway in North Carolina and ran an EV record 6.76-second quarter-mile, with Pat McCue of MLe behind the wheel. The car also posted a top speed of 222 mph in another quarter-mile run, the fastest speed ever recorded for an electric vehicle.

SHOP TOUR - Jay hosted a tour of the Revolve Motors shop and shared battery and motor projects he is working on.

JUNE MEETING - Next month’s meeting will move back to the University Village west parking garage.

We shall launch a campaign to ask the US government to let Chinese EV enter the USA in the normal way.

Best Regards,

Allen Huang, MSEE.
