SP full on Android KitKat 4.4 doesn't effect airplane mode

Sorry, but I don't think SP is being developed any longer. Many users here have abandoned it. It hasn't been updated, and we haven't heard from the developer, since last November.

FWIW, I've seen reports that this affects Secure Settings as well,
though the developer is aware of it and will hopefully fix it.

Also, I read somewhere that SP didn't work at all on Android 4.3 and
higher (which is why I'm in the process of switching to Tasker while I'm
still on Android 4.2).

There may be settings that don't work anymore, whether because of new protections in the operating system or because of SP, but I don't have any problems on the N5 with KitKat.  I'm still a happy SP user.

I can report that SP appears to be working fine on Galaxy S4, Android
4.3 (latest)). Fwiw. It is a real shame dev has ceased and no one can
take it up. Danged fine app.
