Lately, I've been converting my SP profiles to Elixir & E-Robot. E-Robot is very powerful (http://bartat.hu/). However, the one thing missing, which is missing from every other profile manager I try, is the ability to run a profile for a set period of time (I vaguely recall that there might have been one app that would let me run a profile for a set period of time when I selected it, but I can't recall the name, and it must have had other limiting features or I would have continued using it <grin>). This is one reason I continue to use SP for some profiles.

I tried AutomateIt, which is very good, but I didn't really like the interface. I wanted something that would have rules yet allow me to select profiles as well (and AutomateIt is only rules/commands). Elixir & E-Robot together accomplish this (at least to about 90% of SP). I've tried Tasker, which is probably the most powerful automation app, but it's just too complicated for me.

SP still mostly works for me, but lately it has been forgetting its rules, which wreaks havoc with my life because then my alarm is silent in the morning (because I turn off a lot of the sounds during the night).

Anyway, I stumbled across another possible alternative (it's amazing how these things don't show up in a standard search in the Play Store, but yet somehow I read about them one day by poking around on the web (in fact, I can't ever get E-Robot to show up in a search in the Play Store, so I don't even recall how I stumbled on it)). The latest possibility, which seems quite powerful, is "Smart Volume Control" (http://www.smartvolumecontrol.com/). You might want to check it out as an alternative if you haven't already switched to something else from SP. It has a lot of triggers/events and offers a lot of control options (beyond just volume (the app's name implies that it is a bit limiting, but it is much more than a volume control app)). There are a lot of widgets available, including a full control panel to select profiles and turn options on/off (e.g., WiFi).

Enjoy.

I finally switched to Profile Scheduler. It permits setting a profile for a set period of time from a widget. The profiles switch reliably, and it's got a nice interface. I've found it easy to learn. Support is not great--there is no support forum. The only real support option is an email to an overworked dev. Having said that, the dev is continually improving and seems to respond to bug reports.

I tried profile scheduler a while back and just tried it again. I also like the interface. However, as far as I can tell, I can't control GPS even though my phone is rooted. I use Secure Settings with SP but I didn't see any option to use third party apps. Otherwise, setting profiles is a great alternative to SP.

I just noticed yesterday that it wasn't controlling the GPS. That is not a critical feature for me, so I'm not too worried about it. If it worked, I would use it for a car profile. The most important feature is being able to switch profiles based on calendar event descriptions. I've seen a couple other apps that will look only at calendar event names, but not the description field. Profile Scheduler does this perfectly.

The support isn't great for it, and that's the biggest disappointment. I wish that app had a forum like this. But it's getting done what I need it to.
