Is there a "condition" that will turn on BlueTooth when I get in my
car? I usually leave BT off except when I'm using my BT headset.
However, I bought a new car that has BT built in. I tried setting up a
rule with a condition of "connected to BT Device" (which the actual
device name substituted, but I think that really means that if I'm
already connected to a device, it will trigger some action. I want
SettingProfiles to recognize I'm in the car and the BT is on in the
car and have it turn BT on my phone. Is this even possible? If so,
what are the steps to make it work?

Thx.

This might not address your situation but I have a driving profile for
when my phone is in the car dock (I like it's GPS and map following
capabilities). The profile turns on bluetooth when it get put into the
dock. Of course, if you don't use a dock then this is not a helpful
solution.

It is not possible to search for a Bluetooth device (like your car) and then turn your phone's Bluetooth on. It's like your phone can't search for WiFi with WiFi turned off...

You could set a away profile as default and make it so that profile turns on Bluetooth. That way, your other profiles would turn it off...

It would be nice to have the ability to start a profile that could use speed to turn on a profile.

This is how i've been doing this:

1. Create a BT-On profile. (activates bluetooth only)
2. Create a Car profile. (also activates bluetooth, among other
settings you might need)
3. Create Home, Work and other regular locations you might be at
often. (I prefer using Cell Towers locations, but you have to be there
to define them)
4. Create a Scheduled Period conditioned rule (example: on for 1
minutes every 3 minutes) that will run the BT-On profile.
5. Add more conditions to the above rule: not at home and not at work
and not at..... etc. ("not at" is the inverse of a location of
course :-))
6. Create a rule to run Car profile if connected to your car bluetooth
device. (note: BT must be active when setting this in order for your
car BT to show in the paired devices list, given of course you have
paired them before).

This way, bluetooth will keep going on and off when ever you are not
home and not at work... etc. and will stay on when connected to your
car BT.

This setup has been working flawlessly for me until I upgraded to ICS.
Setting profiles is not updating the location when the phone is
sleeping (screen is off) .. but as soon as I press the power button,
it immediately updates.

Hope this helped.

I do something similar. I use my phone as a GPS and other things on my
motorcycle. I have a clip on the handlebar, and charger, and a
bluetooth headset in my helmet.
I also use WiFi all of the time at home and the office.
So I have a rule that states, between a certain time period during the
day, and the phone is on charge, and the WiFi is NOT connected, then
turn on Bluetooth and turn up the volume.

Works pretty well, but the bluetooth doesn't connect until I'm a half
mile from home or whatever, but that is fine.

When I get 4G in my area and don't use WiFi any longer, I need to
develop a new rule. Likely cell tower based, but I'm not sure I like
that.

Hi.

Here's my solution just in case. I set up a rule to switch Bluetooth
on for a few minutes when I switch on the screen.
When I enter my car, I always launch Waze and listen to podcasts from
the phone anyway so I usually switch the phone on anyway. So this
connects to my car radio and activates my car profile automatically.
I also have an app called Juice Defender installed. It has an option
to control Bluetooth and switch it of when not connected to a device.
It can also enable and connect it whenever you receive an incoming
call.
So far this setup is the one that corresponds the best to my usage.
Your mileage will vary of course.
Regards

Hello!

Can you please explain how to activate the profile "BT on" just for a minute (or so)?

create a rule to turn on the bt profile with a trigger event.... and then add a tweak to de-activate the profile after a 60-second delay...

I suggested to add a condition called "moving"  so it would detect change of speed via GPS. It would be useful for activating Bluetooth on the phone to hook up to car's bluetooth if one's position is changed for say to a 100 meter in last 1 minute? For example my Home profile (where I disable Bluetooth) is set using Cells and when I am driving around my home (and this is quite a big area covered by 12 cells) it changes the profile to Home and disables bluetooth when I needed it to give a quick call home.
I think the feature is necessary and will be used widely by all.

AutomateIT (what I switched to since this is unsupported now, it seems) does this as a native action).

Does AutomateIt have a widget similar to SP? I didn't see one. It can create profile widgets but I couldn't get them to combine into one. Also, is it possible to run a profile for a fixed time like SP? Thanks.

As far as I know, the widgets only support a single rule. I use it for mostly state actions (docked, powered, etc) so I don't really have a need to access all the rules via a widget.
In the rule settings, if you uncheck 'always active', you'll get additional settings on when specifically a task should run.

I bought AutomateIt and it is fantastic! Although the feature at the experimental stage it works and can cleverly distinguish bike from car!
