She also praised Rao's performance, saying he "wears the character like skin, and becomes Shahid."[44] India Today's Suhani Singh gave a positive review, writing the film "stops short of hero worship and is a fitting tribute to an inspiring figure."[45] Anupama Chopra praised Rao's performance in the film and called it his "triumph, [..] his Shahid has strength, anguish and a controlled anger, but also real charm."[46] Vinayak Chakravorty of India Today noted it as a "career-defining role" for Rao and the "biggest reason you will love this unusual film."[47] Baradwaj Rangan felt the film was a "deeply humanistic drama" which "makes us think, but more often, it makes us feel."[48] Mid-Day's Shubha Shetty Saha wrote: "Not often do we get the opportunity to watch a relevant movie that depicts the times we live in, with unblinking directness."[49]
The music for the film is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj; the lyrics are by Gulzar. The first song titled 'Bloody Hell'[44] from the movie was released on 11 January 2017, along with the music video.[45] The full movie soundtrack[46] was unveiled on 18 January and it consists 12 songs in total, including the movie theme song. The music rights are bought by T-Series.[47]
The movie delivers a message against community-profiling when Azmi says, "If this man's name was Donald or Suresh or Matthew, would he have been standing here? He is in jail just because of his name."

An hour into the film, I was so into the Guy-Ritchie-meets-Bullet-Train brand of eccentric crime noir that I started pre-enjoying the film. I began to laugh before a punchline, and cringe before a bone-crunching set piece. My reactions became a little more exaggerated, as if I were willing the film to be smarter than it was. An Action Hero (2022) sprung to mind for a hot minute. Farzi sprung to mind for a hot second. At some point, though, the illusions melted away. And it morphed into just another sad-cop drama. The fizzling out feels all the more frustrating, because the film was on the brink of being exhilarating. In other words, Bloody Daddy snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. The jaws are strong till they last. The dismay is inevitable when it comes. After all, only an Ali Abbas Zafar movie can exceed expectations and fall short of them at once.
The yet-to-be-titled film, produced by Maddock Films, which was earlier scheduled to hit the theatres in October has finally got a release date. The makers have confirmed that the movie will hit the big screen on December 7. 2023. Maddock Films took to social media to announce the release date.
