Have backups of old session buddy data files, but I am having trouble restoring them.

I have several database files and I am trying to restore them to get all my tabs back, however when I go through the prescribed process either nothing happens (IE the default session buddy session doesn't go away and nothing changes) or Session Buddy errors out and I have to reinstall.
