For those who miss the Session Buddy v4 auto-migration window or run into problems during the upgrade, a migration tool is now available to help transfer data from Session Buddy v3 to v4:

https://sessionbuddy.com/v4-migration/

This tool generates a Session Buddy v4 restore file from a Session Buddy v3 database file. The restore file can be dropped into Session Buddy v4 by clicking on the gear menu, then clicking Restore. More information on Restore here: https://sessionbuddy.com/restore/

The conversion processing is done completely locally in the browser. Your Session Buddy data is NOT uploaded to any server.

Note that this tool will not run correctly in Brave. For an explanation and workaround, see "Why does Export fail?" at https://sessionbuddy.com/v4-faq/

Cheers,
Hans

Does your application allow you to store open tabs as a vault?

I say if I need to access the Chrome profile on another computer and have access to all the tabs

Can you start a new thread please. Also clarify what you mean by vault.

Thanks,
Hans

I have a bunch of these old backups from the previous version, many of which are duplicates, some very large some small, I noticed when v4 came out that trying to import them would create a lot of duplicates and I had to stop, do you know if this will be improved later, otherwise manually pruning probably isn't an option for 1000s of backups

You are my hero! I am not ashamed to say I cried when I lost all my saved sessions (then I thought due to a chrome crash that also wiped the temp chrome data), which coincided with the V4 update. With the tool and the database I rescued I got it all back. Please keep doing what you do, it brings me happiness!

Much Love!

Hans, may I suggest including on the migration tool's actual functional page (https://sessionbuddy.com/v4-migration/) that all processing is done locally with no data transmitted to any servers?

That was an immediate concern of mine, and I had to find that answer here in your post. Some users might not even be reading the conversation/forum posts here.

Cheers!

The proper way of restoring data from a previous install is to use Restore, not Import. See: https://sessionbuddy.com/restore/

When you use Restore, duplicate items are ignored. Restore reports on how many items were created vs found (although currently there is a bug that reports the count of duplicate History events as "created" even though they were ignored).

Thank you so much Hans, it worked like a charm. I lost all my collections with the v4 upgrade but I was able to restore everything from the database file. :D

The migration tool was experiencing issues yesterday and today.

Should be fixed now. Try again and let me know.

Hey Hans!
It works now, thanks for all your awesome work, and creating such a splendid tool. I am a long time user, and my heart sank a little when I thought I lost all my sessions.
