Hi. Is there a way to see or retrieve the Saved Sessions you have on one device (e.g., a PC/Desktop) on another device (e.g., a laptop)?

Thanks,
Andrew

Not yet. Sync is something we're working on.

Any sense of completion timeline yet? At the moment, I save json files to dropbox to sync my sessions.

It's dependent on funding. Current efforts in that regard (donations) haven't been sufficiently fruitful, so I'll likely try some sort of premium tier in the next few months to see how that works out.

Hi Hans,

Is an intermediary step to allow a setting for the location of backups and export saves so that users can specifiy a Gdrive or Dropbox folder easily referenced by other devices and even multiple browser GSuite profiles from one desktop to another etc.

Hope I haven't missed this feature but couldn't see it.

Thanks for what you have done with Session Buddy. Good to see an extension being actively updated.

Donated :)

Hi Andrew,

First of all, thanks for the incredibly generous donation. I really appreciate that.

Gdrive/Dropbox integration is not currently on the roadmap, but I'm considering it. While it could work well for automating backups, sync still needs to be separately built out and once that's done it would render Gdrive/Dropbox integration redundant... so you're right to characterize it as an intermediary step. My main hesitation is burning up scarce dev bandwidth on a non-trivial stopgap.

On the other hand, automated backups to the cloud would be a tremendously valuable feature and integration with third-party storage seems worth the effort for the quick(er) win.

I've been toying with the idea of introducing a premium tier to help accelerate dev since donations alone are nowhere near enough to sustain full-time focus (despite the amazing generosity of a few users). Sync (and all other features on the roadmap) would automatically become part of that premium tier when complete, but for the time being it could be comprised of 1) support (which would no longer be free), 2) ad-free experience (free tier would start showing occasional 1-line ads in the footer), and.... 3) automated backups via Gdrive/Dropbox? What do you think? Viable strategy?

Of course, any previous donations would be applied to the subscription fee :)

Hans

Hi Hans,

From what I have been able to glean I think you're on the right track. The sad thing is without numbers of users etc I can't validate whether its a workable business model. From where the service sits in the eco-system I would probably value it similar to how I seee Lastpass as one of those needed solutions I'm willing to have a premium version of as long as it doesn't eat into all the monthly things I pay for. So I could see many users paying USD$12/year for it like Lastpass Premium which you do to get the mobile app access but I wouldn't see it priced like an Evernote USD$49/yr.

Hope that helps as you chart the path ahead.

Andrew

Thanks Naik,

Session Buddy actually already supports that. See:

Hi Hans,

You should look at "TabHamster" extension on Chrome on how they backup tabs....they don't use any cloud system.

It just copies the settings of all tabs/urls into a text file, and restore from there. Actually its not even a text file...you click Export settings and it gives you a "text" to copy/paste into a new system (which you can email to yourself or your notes app.

Really easy

I have been waiting and will continue to do so until you release.

Is there a temporary workaround where the extension can backup at least current data into the user's Google Account to backup the data without cross-device sync?

So, while you can restore a set of tabs from any machine - you can't really pull individual tabs from backup up sessions across machines (like what you can in Chrome).
