UPDATE 9/2: I'm happy to report that as of this morning, the Session Buddy listing has been restored to the Chrome Web Store. Thanks all for your patience.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please be advised that the Google Chrome Web Store team has temporarily removed Session Buddy from the Chrome Web Store pending review.

This does NOT affect current Session Buddy installations, but be aware that you will not be able to reinstall Session Buddy until the extension listing has been restored to the Web Store (reinstallation of Session Buddy is necessary when reinstalling Chrome and is often the initial response to troubleshooting functional issues).

Details:

I received an email from the Google Chrome Web Store team this morning that the extension has been removed, alleging that its listing was making use of "irrelevant, misleading, or excessive keywords in app descriptions, titles, or metadata"

As no details were specified, I assume that the offending portion was the last line in the description: "Tags: Session Manager, Session Management". While it's unclear whether this constitutes "excessive keywords", I am at a loss to identify any other portion of the listing that conceivably violates policy. I've sent a reply to the Google Chrome Web Store team soliciting additional information to ensure compliance.

I've re-submitted the extension with the updated description, which will now go through a manual review process of unspecified duration prior to re-introduction to the web store (given that policy compliance is deemed to be remedied). I will update this post as new information comes to light.

This is a good time to confirm that your regular system backup includes the Session Buddy user data folder. For those not regularly backing up your systems, I salute your bravery and urge you to at least make a manual copy of this folder on a regular basis.

Hi Hansifer,

at first, thank you for the great extension. Session buddy save my live in many times before. I have a question, is there a chance to get the crx file from you? Today I had to reinstall my Chrome, so I lost your amazing extension.

Thank you and good luck!

Same I had to re install session buddy today due to chrome update being buggy. I would really appreciate the file as well if at all possible. Your extension is soooooooooo good it's driving me mad not being able to have.

An interim .crx install file is available here:

To install: click link above, open Chrome Extensions page, then drag and drop file from download bar into Extensions page.

You will need to migrate your local data folder to the interim version. See the following instructions:

Process for Backing Up and Restoring Session Buddy User Data

Please note that this is an "unofficial" install intended to serve as a stopgap pending re-approval of the Session Buddy web store listing by the Google Chrome Web Store team. This install is not guaranteed to auto-update and is not officially supported.

You should be able to install it if you click "developer mode" at the top of the chrome extensions settings page. I think.

In any case, Hansifer -- session buddy is the life and blood of my browsing experience. I use tabs like none other, and session buddy works great for being able to go back through previous sessions that I've saved to find things.
The other day when I clicked the session buddy button I was just redirected to a page saying that it had been removed from the chrome store. I didn't know what to do with myself. I believe in you.

Much Appreciation

Right. We've established that it's not currently listed in the Web Store.

Thanks Keroro. Hopefully it will just be a matter of a few days for this to get resolved. It seems Google is vetting Chrome apps/extensions with more scrutiny these days, which of itself is a good thing.

My Session Buddy Extension disappeared after the automatic update to 37 beta..

Is there any way to revert back to my older version of Chrome and get back session buddy? because even with the tricks above it won't let me install session buddy on 37.

Thank you!

I don't know of any additional solution at this point short of waiting for Google to respond.

If you download the .crx file listed above and then use 7zip to extract it to a directory, you can go to chrome://extensions/ and click "Developer Mode" and then "Load unpacked extension" and point it to the directory you extracted to previously.  This works.

It's the greatest extension and I'm relieved to hear that it will be back. I don't get how they just take down one of the most popular extensions without actually reviewing it first, and then just say "Error" when you try to access it. Maybe it would be a good idea to redirect sessionbuddy.com to a page describing the situation. It took some time for me to find this group.

Cheers

Today I started chrome and my profile failed to load. I restarted with a new one but of course I can't install Session Buddy.

My question is: when it will be again available there is a way to recover the saved sessions from old profile folder???

Thanks

Excellent suggestion, Maarten. I've updated sessionbuddy.com accordingly.

While it's good to see Google taking Chrome user security seriously by scrutinizing apps/extensions, their developer relations could benefit from more of a "human" touch. Eg, if there's an apparent issue with an app/extension, engage with the dev to resolve it rather than abruptly taking down the app/extension, sending a vague form letter, and refusing to respond to sincere requests for qualification. Oh well, you take the good, you take the bad...
