Please add an option to disable this new "autobackup" feature. It crashes my Chrome at 3:00am (I'm in the UK) daily, ever since the 4.1.0 update on 27 October 2025. It's weird, because manual backups and exports work just fine. I'm going to have to either edit the extension myself or find an alternative until this feature is given a disable option.

Thanks for the bug report. Can you please send diagnostics to sup...@sessionbuddy.com so we can troubleshoot?

Thank you [for providing diagnostics]. This kind of info is incredibly helpful for getting to the bottom of this sort of thing since it's impacting a very small number of users.

Automatic backup checks occur between 3-3:05 am daily, consistent with your observations. You can disable the check in the SB console with the disableAutoBackup() command. This will stop the nightly crashes. We'll likely be adding a checkbox for this in settings.

A few thoughts:

- The backup is triggering a Chrome bug. Obviously we can't fix that but if we can isolate the conditions then we can at least work around the bug(s) or worst case disable auto-backup for affected users. Again, how quickly this can be done is directly related to how much info we get about affected systems. So far we've received diagnostics from you and one other user.

- I'm sure you're already aware that running an old version of Chrome increases exposure to Chrome bugs. 109 is nearly 3 years old so the chance of a Chrome upgrade fixing this particular issue for you is relatively high. I found a number of bugs related to Chrome API's used by auto-backup that have been fixed since 109. Here's the most recent: https://issues.chromium.org/issues/427600178. That said, I understand upgrading Chrome may not be possible or desirable.

- Your collection count is not super high, but I'm wondering if the crashes could be related to collection size. Can you give me an idea of the average and max number of links in your collections? Is it in the thousands?

- Would you be willing to share an export of your collections for analysis?

Thanks again for helping out. We'll do our best to identify the cause(s) and push out a fix asap.

I am also having this same issue chrome crashes at 3am~, because of the unhelpful chrome crash dumps and me having tons of extensions I had to do a/b tests and spend weeks to figure out it was session buddy that was causing the crashes.

I have around 3000 sessions and most have 1k tabs. I am also running the latest chrome version.

I tried to collect the diagnostics but the tab ran out of memory it must be hitting chromes memory limits as my PC has 128GB RAM.

Try the "Alternative instructions" from https://sessionbuddy.com/console/ to save diagnostics from the service worker console instead of opening a SB tab.

Saving diagnostics from the console also does not work, the page still crashes from out of memory. The error on the console is attached in the image.

Restart Chrome if you haven't in a while.

Save your tabs in SB, close them all, and exit Chrome. Then open Chrome and download diagnostics before restoring any tabs.

You'd need at least a couple orders of magnitude more (and larger) collections than you currently have to get close to the memory limit of an extension, esp with 128GB RAM, so I'm not sure what's going on with your particular system.

If you're able to download your data using the saveData() console command, I recommend doing so. And please send the data file to sup...@sessionbuddy.com if you feel comfortable sharing it. It's a long shot, but there may be something unique about the data that might reveal itself if I can repro the problem.

saveData() also causes the out of memory crash. I am able to to full backups, my full backup Jsons are 4GB so something must be up with that. If you want I can send you that if you are willing to maintain my privacy and delate it after testing.

That would be great. As always, any app data you send to sup...@sessionbuddy.com is permanently deleted after analysis.

Backup should give you a final count of items found. Do you happen to recall that number?

Thanks,
Hans
