Thank you [for providing diagnostics]. This kind of info is incredibly helpful for getting to the bottom of this sort of thing since it's impacting a very small number of users.
Automatic backup checks occur between 3-3:05 am daily, consistent with your observations. You can disable the check in the SB
console with the
disableAutoBackup() command. This will stop the nightly crashes. We'll likely be adding a checkbox for this in settings.
A few thoughts:
- The backup is triggering a Chrome bug. Obviously we can't fix that but if we can isolate the conditions then we can at least work around the bug(s) or worst case disable auto-backup for affected users. Again, how quickly this can be done is directly related to how much info we get about affected systems. So far we've received diagnostics from you and one other user.
- I'm sure you're already aware that running an old version of Chrome increases exposure to Chrome bugs. 109 is nearly 3 years old so the chance of a Chrome upgrade fixing this particular issue for you is relatively high. I found a number of bugs related to Chrome API's used by auto-backup that have been fixed since 109. Here's the most recent:
https://issues.chromium.org/issues/427600178. That said, I understand upgrading Chrome may not be possible or desirable.
- Your collection count is not super high, but I'm wondering if the crashes could be related to collection size. Can you give me an idea of the average and max number of links in your collections? Is it in the thousands?
- Would you be willing to share an export of your collections for analysis?
Thanks again for helping out. We'll do our best to identify the cause(s) and push out a fix asap.
