Hi everyone,

I’ve been a long-time fan of Session Buddy, it’s the main reason I’ve stuck with Chrome despite the challenges introduced by Manifest V3 and other changes.

That said, Chrome’s direction is making it harder and harder to keep relying on SB. I know a Firefox version was mentioned with the V4 rollout, and I’ve been holding onto that hope for a while. I’ve weathered the bugs, broken collections, and headaches I've experience with the rewrite, because SB is just that valuable to me.

But at this point, I’d really love to know:

  • Is a Firefox port still in the plans?

  • How many others here are using Chrome only because of Session Buddy, and would switch if a Firefox version existed?

Unfortunately, the only thing resembling SB on Firefox right now is a scam version:

The fact that a scam version even exists shows there’s real demand for a genuine Firefox port of Session Buddy.

Thanks again for building such a great tool... I just hope it was available elsewhere.

Yes, it's still planned and something we very much would like to do, but our resources are extremely limited so we have to aggressively prioritize what gets worked on. It's just an unfortunate reality of developing and maintaining a free tool.

We're working on a premium tier that will hopefully generate some revenue so we can ramp up development.

"How many others here are using Chrome only because of Session Buddy, and would switch if a Firefox version existed?"

YES, yes and 110% yes.
However, regardless, I am in the process of finally making the move to firefox.
The SB to FF port has been in the works for years (well over a decade?).

I'm just not going to stick with this chrome-based electron/JS/excessive-spyware-telemetry crap browser framework much longer, so I am going to make the transition (which is not to say FF doesn't have telemetry which needs modifying). Feeling finally done with it.

As far as tab management and managing research links and things, I am using "Foxy Tab" and Sidebery, which are great tools, but definitely don't do everything SB does.
FoxyTab is not as clever as SB, and is not a session manager (I am still yet to find a good session manager)
It cannot export links in all the different formats either, which is a shame.

The nice thing it has though is modifiable keyboard shortcuts, which I don't think SB ever implemented.
The 3 I use are
"Copy all URLs and Titles to clipboard"
"Copy all URLs and Titles to the right to the clipboard"
"Copy all URLs and Titles to the left to the clipboard"

There are something like 50+ keyboard shortcuts which can be modified.
So, that is nice, and can save some time.

As far as tab management: Either Sidebery / Treestyle tab. Sidebery has a tab-search function (add your own shortcut). I do a lot more bookmarking and bookmark management now too. There are other ways to convert Titles and URLs to different string formats.

Overall, I am a bit hobbled without SB, and basically finding workarounds, which are quite good, and sufficient really. I wish the FF port would happen, but have kind of given up hope (don't mean to that to sound dreary, I know you are a busy guy, Hans, and actively developing this still). So, I am just "learning to live with less" in terms of session management. Maybe that is a good thing in a way. Perhaps I have become too reliant  and overcomplicate things organizing 50+ open tabs on any given day.
There may be other brilliant workarounds and new ways of working still to be found.

Ha, I noticed that too. I checked FF extensions first to see if there had been a port, and noticied this thing which had a bad smell.
