I thought "the obvious", so I right-clicked a collection.
There was no "Copy" option.

I used the 3-dots. There are multiple formats - but none seems to be like "serialize collection" (so that it can be used on Import).

But the format seems to exist: https://sessionbuddy.com/formats/#import-json

I'd be happy to write the feature, if there was a repository I could access

Import/export is the intended feature for this use case.

1. Select the desired collection(s)
2. Select Export from the gear menu
3. Select "Selected collections" in the Export dropdown
4. Select "JSON" in the As dropdown
5. Click "Select destination" button and save the file
6. Import the saved file into another SB installation via the Import action in the gear menu

v4.1 (due out soon) will include a Copy button in the Export dialog as an alternative to saving a file.

Fair point about this not being accessible through the collection tile menu. It should probably be added there.

Copy/paste is for session or collection content (tabs or links). This feature allows copying a selection of links across collections (and even the current session). Due to security, it does not work across browsers by default, but you can enable that by giving SB system clipboard access:

1. Right-click SB icon
2. Click "View web permissions"
3. Select "Allow" for Clipboard
4. Reload SB

This must be done on both the source and target browsers.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers,
Hans

Oh, right, ofc: Nowadays there's Import/Export and Backup/Restore.

So _Export won't mandatorily only be "export everything"_.

Thank you for your time and verbosity :-D

Looking SO forward to v4.1 :-D

Yeah - using "Export" kind of railroads you into downloading the file 😅.
These days I work more like "Share," where the data just flows from x to y. Clipboard feels like the prime tool for that.

Also, "Export" doesn’t actually export everything:

* "created": optional number representing time in milliseconds that has elapsed since the epoch.
* "updated": optional number representing time in milliseconds that has elapsed since the epoch.

I get that there may be reasons for this. My expectation would be to get the full dataset either way 😅.

Agreed. There's definitely room for improving this workflow.

Right, Export strips some metadata by design. That's probably not what you want if you're using it to share collections across SB instances... BUT also that sort of thing shouldn't be necessary if collections are stored in the cloud... a feature I happen to be working on as we speak.

Sounds amazing.
... Until I see what the cost of the cloud service is 😅

Which ofc it is completely your right to find a way to monetize all the good work you have poured into this extension 🙏
I know it has definitely saved me a couple of times. And now with the snapshot feature, it "doubles" as a History browser.

But I also appreciate "what can I make work with my own two hands", without the necessity of external dependencies.

Thank you for the exchanges we've been having here 🙏
