Greetings.

The forced upgrade to v4 happened to me today.

Is it preferred to post a single thread with a few different issues listed, or separate each item out into a single thread?

For now, this will house all items.

1. Search:
a) Search function now seems limited to "Collections" and does not include "History" sessions at all.  Major deal breaker for me, at least.  Most sessions I have were auto-created by the close of the browser - be that manually closing the browser, or an unexpected close.

Why are history sessions not included in Search?  Checked "Settings".  Doesn't seem to be an option to change that.

b) Search results used to display in the main Chrome window, with matching Sessions at the left.  Now it seems to just be a drop down from the Search box instead.  The former was much more robust and useful.  The latter is... lacking.

2.  Manipulation of Sessions:
Prior to the v4 upgrade, there was no real distinction between "History" and "Collection" sessions.  This meant that multiple sessions of either type could be manipulated using Combine/Merge/Save/Copy/etc.  Multiple "History" sessions can no longer be manipulated in this manner.

3. Backup/Export:
Prior to the v4 upgrade, the "Backup" option (which seems to have been removed) exported ALL sessions, including the aforementioned History sessions.  There does not appear to be an analog to this functionality under v4.

Prior to the v4 upgrade, the Export feature also allowed saves in multiple formats for all sessions at once, using text, CSV, Markdown, and HTML, in addition to JSON. (though a separate Export operation was required for each format type).

In v4, Individual History sessions can be exported in those formats, but again, only on an individual History session basis.  There seems to be no way to select more than a single History session at once.

4. "New" History settings:
In v4, wondering how the new "Remove snapshots older than" and "Keep at most" settings are actually being implemented.

From what I remember from v3, using the largest settings essentially meant "infinite" and the settings were largely ignored.   But I could be wrong about this.

Are the new settings the same?  Or is actually limited to 10 years and 500 snapshots respectively?

I've been using Session Buddy since 2014, and have sessions dating back to that time.

Preferably separate posts per topic, or better yet find and add to existing thread on same topic

> 1. Search does not include "History" sessions at all

This will be addressed in a forthcoming release.

> 1b. Search results used to display in the main Chrome window, with matching Sessions at the left

This is fixed in the forthcoming v4.0.2 awaiting approval. The search dropdown is still there, but collections and links are now also filtered (and highlighted) as before.

> 2. History multi-select/combine

Will likely bring this back

> 3. There does not appear to be an analog to Backup

Export does this now (includes both collections and history).

There is a distinction between Import and Restore to more explicitly accommodate the 2 main use cases for Import/Export: 1. to transfer collections from one SB installation to another (import), and 2. to restore a new installation with a backup from a previous installation (restore)

Ultimately cloud sync would eliminate #1, when opted into.

Both Import and Restore accept v3 and v4 export files, but Import only imports collections, whereas Restore imports both collections and history. Restore also preserves ids and pinned collections. See this link for more info: https://sessionbuddy.com/restore/

> Export formats (txt, csv, markdown, html, etc)

Copy/paste is meant to serve this use case now. In some ways this is easier but 2 known limitations still need to be figured out: 1. a way to include folder/window groupings, as pointed out by others, and 2. copying multiple History events at once (which sounds like what you're referring to and could be fixed by #2 above?)

> wondering how the new "Remove snapshots older than" and "Keep at most" settings are implemented

both conditions are applied during housekeeping; additional items may get removed after processing the first condition.

> From what I remember from v3, using the largest settings essentially meant "infinite"

Actually, no. SB v3 had a simple hard-coded 500 Previous Session limit.

> actually limited to 10 years and 500 snapshots respectively?

Those are the defaults (chosen for alignment with SB v3 so nothing would get dropped during upgrade). v4.0.2 adds some higher limiter options for both types of conditions.

Thanks for the detailed feedback!

Yes, please, bring those back to us. Really needed.
Thank you for your hard work.
