Many thanks to developers for this great addon!

It would be really handy if you could export/backup the complete
session database you acquire after using SB for a while. either to
import your sessions on another machine or just as a backup in case of
a system crash. direct export to cloud backup services would be of
course the best ;)

+ 1 too but also..

would be really useful if session buddy could store my links online
i.e. 'cloud-style' - as Parham has suggested above. I say this after
re-formatting my laptop and realising (after thoroughly backing all my
other files up) that I've now lost all my links since I got SB back in
Nov last year.

Also, because I work from 2 computers, a netbook and a desktop, it can
be pretty frustrating having to re-save or manually update my tabs/
links.

However, from my experience, SB is a very simple and useful tool for
chronologically storing and displaying the links I've visited :D

thank you to the author(s) of this awesome tool, you have made this
thing an indispensable part of my browser-ing kudos =]

but this would help me out soo much, i honestly dont care if its just
a text file or a comprehensive total backup,
in the past ive gone though each previous session and
"actions>export...>copy>paste'' into a a document but that is just no
longer an option for me.
Im on multiple systems thoughout the day, and my main one(kubuntu) has
went and bugged itself out.

I NEED TO BE ABLE TO EXPORT/BACKUP MY COMPLETE SESSION DATABASE ASAP
PLZ HELP!!

As I understand the current storage arrangement, Session-Buddy uses a SQLite embedded database.  That means you could use SQLite compatible tools to perform backups, imports, & exports maybe.  Here's is the home page, http://www.sqlite.org/ .

There is a database browser which you might find is useful for your purposes.

That's right, it's a SQLite db file.

Location of Session Buddy data file:

Windows Vista, Windows 7:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

OSX:
/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/databases/chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

Ubuntu:
/home/<username>/.config/google-chrome/Default/databases/chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

Not that this helps you right now, but the version I'm releasing on April 1 allows you to select all sessions (optionally removing duplicate tabs) before doing an export.

Hans,

Thank you for confirming my recall was okay.  The next step is obvious.  Some scripting using SQLite's command line features would be useful.  Here's Wikipedia's article on SQLite.  I'm also remembering that there is a data store API in HTML5 browsers(there has been some redesigns) and Javascript storage API binding.  See localStorage & sessionStorage for details. Using this you could be much fancier.

The other BIG issue holding up the show for bookmark and sessions storage is that Ggle Chrome's bookmark tree is not the same as Firefox's, Safari's, and Internet Exploder's bookmark trees.  They are close but not quite the same.  XMarks.com which claims to be able to share has a few issues when syncing across FF and Chrome much to my angst.  It does work after a fashion.

I use S-B as a desktop work-tray organizer.  I have all the windows & tabs per project or activity in a single session.

Is this file the "history file" of Session Buddy?? If is this, thanks
a lot for this information, perhaps I can recover all my lost
session/"bookmarks"/visited links, revisiting them. I think you must
put all thin information in a Help file into the addon, for easy
finding problems solutions.

I´m going to try to recover all.

Thanks!!

It's simple.  S-M uses the SQLite(.org) database.  You can use a SQLite database browser to make the backup or export.  Go to SQLite.org look for links to associated db browsers.

SQLite.org as I remember does not program their own db browser..  Find, download, & install the one with the features you want.  Next learn how to use that tool to do what you need with your Windows or Mac directly.

The new version allows you to select multiple sessions. If you select all sessions before doing an export, you can export all windows/tabs across all sessions at once. The drawback is that this is not currently at the session level, but a future release will add a "Show Sessions" checkbox as well as support the export format inbound for importing. It's not a perfect solution for export/backup, but it's the quickest way to save multiple sessions externally on the fly.

Currently, for a proper export, John's suggestion above is the best approach. The approach for a proper backup is to make sure you include the session buddy data folder in your regular system backups.

I should add:

You can select multiple sessions in a number of ways:

- ctrl-click to select/deselect individual sessions
- shift-click to select a range of sessions
- click the icons that appear on the session group headers (eg, "Saved Sessions") when you hover over them to select all displayed sessions in that group.
- click a session and drag up or down to select a range of sessions
