I had already successfully conversion-migrated to version-4 back in March 13th;
all my saved sessions converted into "Collections" and even "snapshots" survived the transition.

On 28th (UTC+2) the Session Buddy stealth-updated during a Chrome a session.
And now everything saved prior and after March 13th is now gone;
only the snapshot at March 28th 3:43PM / 15.43 and two collections saved since are remaining.

Also the oldest manual-backup-file I had created was done with Version-3 on January 2024.

Worth noting during all this updating, there was some "pagefile / virtual-memory"-bloating happening in the background which did temporarily did top-up my (permanent-physical) storage-space.
I am however doubtful there is any "corruption" or anything similar happening since nothing else on my storage-space is missing;
only the Session-Buddy-collections  prior version-4.0.2 are not displayed on the Session Buddy-GUI.

Considering the pre-version-4 data-file is still intact and was previously successfully migrated, I am assuming version-4 also has its own data-file;
is it possible the import this from somewhere to restore all the data prior version-4.0.2?

To answer the claim in your subject line directly, this is almost certainly a resource/browser issue that is out of reach of browser extensions. It's extremely unlikely that this is directly related to v4.0.2 changes or SB code. If it were, we'd be seeing a significant spike in this kind of report.

I appreciate you mentioning the storage space issue as that was likely the root cause. The reality is that saving data locally has some edge-case limitations that only cloud storage or a system back can provide coverage for.

With that out of the way... yes, you'll be able to use the v3 database file to recover the data. See "What do I do if data was lost during the v4 upgrade?" at https://sessionbuddy.com/v4-faq/

Cheers,
Hans

But is / was there a datafile specifically for the version-4 though?
"I am assuming version-4 also has its own data-file;

?"

I am currently more concerned of the now not visible collections / saved-sessions especially created between March 13th-28th 2024 which I had prior the 4.0.2-update.
