Any plans to add support for saving and restoring tab groups added in chrome 81?

Currently, the groups are lost when you save and restore a session.

Came here to ask about this as well. Tab groups are awesome, but not really useful to me if Session Buddy can't restore them.

I had the same problem a moment ago (I had set up 3 groups with 33 tabs between them); I almost cried because I thought I had lost all of my work, but then I had a big sigh of relief, because I found a set of 33 tabs closed in Chrome History, that just needed to be reopened. I think we need to have Save Groups addressed specifically in Session Buddy or in a GMail update. A  cumbersome workaround would call for putting the URLs found for each group into a text file. This should be done on the Session Buddy side.

We'll have to wait until Google adds tab group support to the extension API.

Hi Hans,
The new Chrome 'Tab Groups' are really AWESOME, and now that they are officially supported in the main Chrome channel, it is now more critical than ever to get Session buddy to fully support them.

The 'Tab Group' Extension API development is progressing and the latest info can be found here (the above API  issue link has been merged into the following):

+1 Would be so cool.

According to this thread (comment from Fri 2. October), the API is nearly ready.

"That said, the API is nearly settled for the core group/ungroup functionality and should be available in Canary soon.  "

Thanks everyone for commenting on the progress of the Chrome API and expressing your interest in tab group support.

This will likely make it into the next major version of Session Buddy with initial support in the form of preserving tab groups when restoring a session or window. Visually representing tab groups in the Session Buddy UI or allowing grouping/ungrouping from there may follow in a subsequent release.

This is based on a preliminary evaluation of the Chrome API work in progress and subject to change.

Cheers,
Hans

Hey Hans,

Having just shoot an email before seeing the group conversation, and seeing others are super interested too, it might be better for all to share any update on groups implementation here :)

Thank you.
Matteo.

Is tab groups support going to be a Version 4 feature?

Hi Hans,

Came here looking for tab group support and found this thread.   back in Oct 2020 it would 'most likely' make it into the next release.    Curious if there are any updates.    I don't see it on the Ref 4 feature list.

thanks

Was just wondering the same thing. I've used Session Buddy forever and it's saved me a ton of times, but recently I've been using tab groups and they are not preserved. It's not a critical issue because all the tabs are still there. It just means I have to go back and manually redo the work of grouping.

Thanks for all your work!
Milt

Mr. Brown has the correct way to approach considering an S-B improvement.  That's to gain knowledge of how the new Group tabbing actually works, understanding the Group Tab API, & imagining how it can be integrated into S-B  Is it even possible to solve the stated problem.  Hans Meyer will have to spend a fair amount of time developing.

Hans needs money.

all tabgroups requires significant overhaul of the code so I am not surprised Hans is waiting with this.

Personally I dislike that feature - I am waiting for the ability to have an extension set the custom window names ;)

+1000 to this Tab group support. This is a super super super helpful feature.

I have to stop using session buddy since the group is not supported. With so many groups to manager different tasks, and each group with tons of tabs, the session buddy recovered tab list will be very hard to re-organized to the grouped status without time consuming manual regrouping...

I often have +100 tabs open in a day and it takes so much time to add again each one manually to its group

Thanks
