Thefirst version of AIMP was released on August 8, 2006[8] and was named after its creator, Artem Izmaylov Media Player. AIMP was initially based on the BASS audio library.[9] Version 3 added a new audio engine and full support for ReplayGain, and revamped the music library interface transparency effects.

AIMP can also cache up to 60 seconds of internet radio streams to RAM, allowing for uninterrupted playback over unreliable internet connections. A drawback of this function is that channel switching is slowed as the buffer is first filled to at least 25% before the playback starts (i.e. with 60 seconds of cache selected, the music will take up to 15 seconds to start playing).

Other features of AIMP include a LastFM scrobbler, a Playlist and Advanced Tag Editor, Multi-User support, support for Internet Radio stream capturing and cloud streaming, a 20-band equalizer, plug-in and skin support, a multi-language interface, Rating and listening statistics, CUE sheet support, a CD ripping tool with audio encoding support, and a searchable audio library with customizable track grouping.

my default music player is AIMP. If I select multiple mp3 files for example and press Enter the process takes quite a long time to add all the files to AIMP. The Windows Explorer doesnt have this behaviour its way faster.

Also if I right click and chose 'open with AIMP' it works like it does with the Windows Explorer.

Can I somehow achieve the same thing with the Enter key?

Let me explain. AIMP2 and AIMP4 have excellent music library plus they support awesome skinning. You may do this as well with Foobar, though. If you have a nerve to configure it in that way. But, basic Foobar installation is just awesome for send-to-it-for-quick-playing, plus it can convert anything to just about everything.

Here's the script. When the enter key is pushed, it will handle everything that isn't a music file normally. Anything that is a music file gets moved into a separate command which is sent to AIMP with all files at once.

Yeah this new version should fix the OP's problem. The OP's problem was a known problem back in December so with this recent release, he/she should no longer need the script. Since it's working perfectly fine for me here.

I've tried it in the newest build of AIMP and it still doesn't work (without Leo's script) for me in Opus (it does in Explorer). Perhaps some combination of settings under "File adding" is required (except option to append new files to current playlist, I don't want that)?

From what I've looked at today, the issue is from the way Opus handles programs that register themselves in a particular way, which Winamp (and a handful of other programs) use, and a difference in how Opus handles the context menu vs pushing return to launch files.

Part of the problem is that Opus can override double click actions, and it's also complex (and not really documented) to work out exactly what the OS will do for each file before actually doing the standard action.

Changing this would risk breaking several other things, so we'd be reluctant to do so. I'm not being lazy here btw, I spent an entire day looking at it last week before deciding the workaround script was a better way to solve the winamp problem.

I can select multiple music files and right click on them and add them all to AIMP without problems. I also tested it with Double Click and it works out fine too. I have not tested it with Enter yet though because I have music files associated with VLC by default on Windows instead of AIMP (I generally have file managers handle the file associations rather than using Windows for certain file types).

I did some more testing.

If I have everything at default and mp3 associated with AIMP. AIMP reopens for every track I selected, leaving me with only one track in my playlist (this also happens with other 3rd party file managers).

If I go to the file type manager and change the 'open' command to '...AIMP.exe' /ADD_PLAY it gets all tracks but it is way slower than doing it via the context menu. The speed difference may not be that significant if the files are on a local drive mine are on a network share though.

The Windows music player AIMP has recently been updated to version 5.0 final. We have followed AIMP development here at Ghacks for a long time. Our first tutorials, recording Internet radio with AIMP and installing Winamp plugins in the music player, date back to 2008.

Existing users find plenty of changes in AIMP 5.00, beginning with a new design. AIMP 5.00 displays several design suggestions on start that range from a minimalistic version to a modern version; the classic design is also available, for users who prefer it over the new designs.

The screenshot above shows the default design, which is eye pleasing and useful at the same time. One of AIMP's strengths is customizability, and the latest version of the music player has a lot to offer in that regard.

AIMP 5.00 is an excellent music player for Windows. It is in many regards like Winamp, but since development for the classic player has more or less stopped a long time ago, it is like what Winamp could have been, if development would not have stopped.

There were two things. The first was offers for other software in the installer that could be declined which was stopped years ago. The second was a weird window that appeared over the lower left corner of the screen for a few seconds on startup that either showed the pot player logo or was white with no content. It was in the player, appeared whether online or not. Still not sure what it was.

@ULBoom Yeah I thought there was some sort of thing about PotPlayer. I recall having it a few years ago and noticed that window also. There might have even been more odd things that the developers also did too which put it at odds with everyone but I feel like you followed the developments more than I did on this one. I remember the humble beginnings of it and now it seems to be a bit more polished and perhaps even funded by a larger commercial entity from Korea or something. (pure speculation on my behalf)

Overall I just felt that it was a bit too bloated for my needs and felt it had its quirks but that aside given all the issues and somewhat underhanded aspects I gave it a miss and stuck to my MPC-HC and MPC-BE, I also have VLC as a backup and tend to use the MadVR renderer with MPC-BE I believe which I agree is very good. I have heard that PotPlayer works extremely well with MadVR though.

Gee I remember the old days of BSplayer (amazingly they are still going and also have an android version) and Radlight which then became foistware but was still pretty cool for its time just as a memory and the developer did a lot of work in the early days to contribute to the community.

I feel like all media players have come a long way these days except VLC which seem to introduce new bugs whilst not addressing past issues with every release and then there is SMPlayer (not to be confused with SPlayer) which I know used to get talked about a lot here but I have never liked it nor its fisher price interface that has largely remained the same since its creation. (sorry people)

As far as music players go I used to use AIMP many years ago (version 1 or 2) and dabbled with version 3 but then moved onto foobar2000 with a skin/theme from deviant art but somehow I ended up with MusicBee which seemed to fit my needs especially having a large collection of music (all legit personal CD rips).

I definitely feel AIMP has surpassed WinAMP and has found its niche in that community whilst another member here has rightfully mentioned that WinAMP is making a comeback of sorts (wish sonique would in the same manner too) but I totally feel like AIMP has made great strides to fill that gap.

I feel like foobar2000, MusicBEE and even Music Monkey (if that was the one) are a different kind of player for maintaining large catalogs of music.

I feel like MPC-HC and MPC-BE have made some good progress in recent years however its one of those players that you either like or dislike just as I dislike SMplayer but its great we have so many options available god forbid it we just had a few players to chose from and only windows media player (YUCK!)

Yeah you are right! I vaguely remember when I started using Potplayer there was only one unofficial source for an english version but now that is long in the past and there probably is a bunch of rogue sites distributing malware too.

You are right about Unchecky. I always install it on computers for family members and other non technical people. (saves me trying to fix their computer later) lol.

SimpleWall is probably just about the best free firewall there is. very easy to use without all the bloat. Very recommended.

From 2009 already I am using with pleasure (Thanks to ghacks.net) AIMP, but also from 2003 already the excellent Foodbar 2000 and the equally great MusicBee from 2009.

All three are excellent adjustable music players. I love al three of them.

Over the years I think I have tried them all but I am sticking with these three.

MonkeyMote requires either a recent version of Winamp 5, foobar2000 1.3 or later, MediaMonkey 4 or 5, JRiver Media Center 16 or later (rebranded versions may not be supported) or AIMP2 to AIMP5 running on Windows 7 or later.

During installation you will be asked to select the installation directory. This will usually be detected correctly by the installer, but may have to be corrected in certain cases (e.g. when using a media player that has been installed in portable mode).

Download the foobar2000 package, which should be opened and installed by foobar itself. If it isn't (e.g. if foobar has been installed in portable mode), open up foobar's preferences dialog, select Components on the left, click the Install button and select the package file or simply drag & drop the package onto the list of installed components.

The MediaMonkey 4 plugin will typically be installed in C:\Program Files\MediaMonkey\Plugins, which should be detected automatically. If you have installed MediaMonkey in portable mode, you may have to run the command MediaMonkey.exe /elevate /regcomserver to get the plugin working properly.
