Sib. 5.x: Register Sibelius 5
Posted by Reuben M. Allen - 27 Aug 04:21PM Hide picture Hello. I am having trouble registering my copy of Sibelius 5 on a new computer. I have already unregistered it from my previous computer. I went to the Avid site -bin/register/register.pl and entered my serial number. Then I was asked to enter a computer number which is supposed to appear in a box when I run Sibelius. However, I don't know how to run sibelius from there.

There must be something I'm missing because I don't know how to open Sibelius 5 to find the help menu in the first place. I have the demo CD with the serial number.

Posted by Daniel Spreadbury - 27 Aug 11:53PM Hide picture You run Sibelius by double-clicking the 'Sibelius 5' icon in your Applications folder on the Mac on which you've installed the software.
You find your Computer Number by choosing Help > Register Sibelius, then choosing the 'By fax, phone or email' radio button, and clicking Next. The Computer Number is shown to you on the next screen.

Posted by Reuben M. Allen - 28 Aug 02:50PM Hide picture Ok, just contacted the support by phone. Here is what we have to do in case anyone else ever has this problem.
First, we created a Sibelius Software folder in your /Library/Application Support folder as described at _US/Troubleshooting/en417231
Now, you are downloading the current Sibelius 5 (version 5.4) for Mac from under "Option 2: re-download the complete software" in the "Upgrades for Sibelius 5 users" section at
Once that download has completed you are going to:
- double click on the download ("Sibelius54English.dmg") in your Downloads folder ... that should open the download and you should see the Sibelius 5 Installer
- double click on the Sibelius 5 Installer ... that should open the Sibelius 5 Installer and you should see a Sibelius 5 icon
- drag the Sibelius 5 icon into your Applications folder
- restart your computer
Then you should be able to start Sibelius 5 (by double clicking on the Sibelius 5 icon in your Applications folder) and you should be able to enter your Sibelius Serial Number ("SCEE 520 586 475 423867").
Then you will be prompted to register Sibelius 5, please reply to this case with the Computer Number shown on the 'How to Register' screen and I will provide you a Registration Number so that you can complete the registration of Sibelius 5 on your computer.

Sib. Student: sibelius 6.2 upgrade download - Invalid serial number
Posted by RJayCee - 16 Sep 12:14PM Hide picture My Sibelius Student 6.15 would not launch in Windows 7 (it used to but doesn't now).
After being recommended to download V6.2xxx I do so and doubleclick to launch.
A dialogue box appears asking for my serial no.
I enter the serial number from inside the DVD case and am informed "The serial number is invalid".
When I go through the process of phoning the helpline, having to find my ASC and finding out it is invalid [despite the s/w only having been registered in January 2011], I am eventually asked for a 'Computer Number' which I cannot retrieve because my software won't run, because the "The serial number is invalid".
Will someone PLEASE help me before I jump off a bridge. This software was bought legitimately from Amazon less than a year ago; WHY is this so difficult?
ANY help appreciated.

I have neither iMesh nor iLivid installed. In any case, how would they affect the validity of the serial number?
I was considering AVID Studio for video editing but am unlikely to spend my cash on anthother AVID product on the strength of this experience. This is farcical.

It is impossible to get in touch with customer support from AVID. They make their customers, people who have paid for their products, go on an online forum to figure out why their products are messed up and won't work. The post in question was from 9 years ago: it might well be out of date by now.
Avid phone support was closed down because of the COVID pandemic. I don't know whether any of it has subsequently re-opened.
If you want official Avid support, then open a case via your "My Avid" account at:

Ok.. Please email me at the address below so that we can assist further. Aside from what Robin has suggested, you may also reach out through the following channels below if you are unable to connect via hotlines. I just think it's unfair that you call us the "worst" if you haven't tried any of the other ways on how to reach out to us. Thank you and apologies that you've experienced such difficulties.
