The listing of USAN stems (XLSX) represents common stems for which chemical and/or pharmacologic parameters have been established. These council-approved stems and their definitions are recommended for use in coining new nonproprietary drug names belonging to an established series of related agents.

The list is not exhaustive. It does not include all stems used by the council and other national or international nomenclature groups. The nature of the nomenclature process is that new potential stems are constantly being created and that definitions of older stems may need to be modified as new information becomes available.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

As a STEM student, we understand that disciplinary focus is often your main priority when selecting the best and most rewarding study abroad experience. We offer a range of exciting summer research projects in five great locations: Scotland, Ireland, England, Italy, and Spain. This list below highlights the range of project choices on offer, alongside their locations and their availability.

These programs are highly competitive and fill up fast. Once you decide your project preference please get your application in to us. We would recommend you also keep in mind an alternative project should your preferred option be already taken.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) maintains a list of academic programs of study designated as STEM. The DHS list was most recently updated in 2023 and is available at Study in the States. F-1 students who graduate from a DHS STEM-designated program of study are eligible to apply to USCIS for an OPT STEM Extension. STEM eligibility enables F-1 students to extend the normal one year of Post-completion OPT by an additional 24 months. STEM OPT applications must be submitted to DHS within a strict timeline during students' initial year of Post-completion OPT. To learn more about eligibility requirements and the STEM OPT application process, please visit the OIA STEM OPT webpages.

Below, the OIA maintains a list of all UM-Dearborn degree programs that are currently designated by DHS as eligible for the OPT STEM Extension. The list includes undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs and is alphabetized by program title.

Because the industry and occupation classifications have changed over time, crosswalks have been developed to facilitate analysis of data across classification systems. Occupation classifications are derived from the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system. Industry classifications are derived from the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS).

What we are doing here is using a list comprehension to loop through each string inside the main list, splitting that into a list of words. Then we loop through that list, stemming each word as we go, returning the new list of stemmed words.

Please note I haven't tried this with stemming installed - I have taken that from the comments, and have never used it myself. This is, however, the basic concept for splitting the list into words. Note that this will produce a list of lists of words, keeping the original separation.

On July 12, 2023, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) added eight new qualifying fields of study to the STEM Designated Degree Program List. F-1 nonimmigrant students who complete certain programs of study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) are eligible to apply for a twenty-four-month extension of their post-completion optional practical training (OPT).

DHS last published an update to the STEM list in the Federal Register on January 21, 2022. In this publication, DHS included an overview of the process for interested parties to nominate additional fields of study to be included or removed from the STEM list.

DHS received nominations for an additional 120 fields to be included on the STEM list and selected the following eight new qualifying fields of study and Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) codes:

Eligible F-1 nonimmigrant students who have completed degree programs listed on the updated STEM list may apply for the STEM OPT extension by submitting a Form I-983 (Training Plan for STEM OPT Students) and a Form I-765 (Application for Employment Authorization).

Reading science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) trade books is the perfect way for students to develop literacy skills while learning STEM content. Building upon a strong legacy of several decades of recommending outstanding science trade books, the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) appointed a judging panel that has selected its second annual list of Best STEM Books. The list was chosen by volunteer educators, identified in cooperation with the Children's Book Council (CBC).

STEM is more than a concept diagram with connections among four (or more) subject areas. It's a unique way of knowing and exploring the world. The STEM approach involves the essence of the practices of science and engineering. Tools like mathematics, technology, and communication skills are interwoven in STEM explorations. That seamlessness is what challenges educators around the world. And nowhere is that more obvious than when teachers look to find literature to integrate into a STEM curriculum.

Representing the best science trade books published for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, the books featured on the list include captivating stories, compelling characters, and beautiful illustrations.

Most CAP STEM Kits are available to all AEOs and AEMs. There are a select few that will only be available to our AEOs. If you are an AEM, and you and your students are interested in STEM Kits that are only available to our AEOs, visit or join your local CAP squadron to learn more.

To learn more about the STEM Kits that CAP offers, click on the specific kit in the left navigation menu or on the kit name on this page, and read a brief description of the kit including its components, age requirements and additional equipment needed for the kit. All documents and links necessary to complete each STEM Kit can be found in Learning Management Systems (LMS) on eServices at this link.

The kits come at no cost to recipients, are designed to enhance current CAP educational curriculum and programs and will be ready-made for immediate implementation. CAP Unit AE Officers (or commanders), as well as CAP members who are educators, including AFJROTC instructors, can select one kit from the options that are described below.

To apply for a STEM Kit, log into eServices using your CAPID# and password. Click on Aerospace Education and then CAP STEM Kit. When you are on the CAP STEM Kit page, click on Apply for STEM kit at the top of the page. Fill out the application completely and Submit.

After you use the kit for at least six hours and complete an online evaluation, you may apply for another kit. NOTE: Kits are designed as introductory programs with the intention that the recipients connect with subject matter experts -- as noted with each kit description, for further assistance -- instruction, and guidance.

Provided below is an NSF-approved list of 4-digit National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) codes for reporting. Subdisciplines (6-digit CIP codes) of the disciplines listed below can also be reported. Please consult the NCES CIP Code list to find the proper classification for sub-disciplines.

If your passion is science and you're looking for something inspiring to read, take a look at our recommended reading list. Below is a list of favourite books suggested by our staff, ambassadors and academics.

Best known for his humorous travel books, this is a slight detour for the author, but one that is filled with the engaging enthusiasm of someone discovering science in all its wonder and peculiarities [plus some luck, bizarre occurrences and tragedy] as if travelling a new continent. This is by no means a heavy tone but you will find yourself educated and entertained. I would repeatedly find myself so engrossed in its pages, many times reading into the small hours of the morning.

The book is primarily about adventurer mountaineering, climbing the world's highest mountains. The themes covered within it include the natural environment, Climates, Geology and Geography. Human physiology, endurance; survival in extreme conditions. The author, previously working as a teacher, became an international mountain guide and accomplished reaching the highest summits. The book adds inspiration to the subjects and a spirit of adventure others might want to pursue.

I would like to recommend this book because I thought that it was a really good read. The book showcased the ingenuity of humanity in exploring and understanding the wonders of the world around them, the various methods that the great minds of the past used to investigate the world, and the thinking behind various facts that we may take for granted today. I also like that it covers a wide range of topics in science, from biology, physics, chemistry to geology, gives an outline of the history of how we reached our current understanding of the world, and touches on the latest advances in the scientific domain where active research is currently being done. I think its greatest selling point is that it instils a scientific method of how to think critically about nature with lots of quirky drawings and diagrams. It's a really good starting point for anyone generally curious about the natural world and how our current knowledge of the world came to be.
