Never heard of that happening. See the charge on my credit card each month reliably, even manages to go thru when I am over my limit on the card so something weird that they never emailed that it failed.
I had netflix magically change the active plan I was on. Cant remember the details exactly, it was around the time they put prices up, I magically ended up the the "premium" plan, instead of "standard" that I've had forever.
If you're using some sort of unblocking service (don't discuss services please in public) then ensure you're setting up billing in NZ dollars by logging into your Netflix account on a device without your unblocking. The unblocked content will work without issues and you'll continue to be charged in $NZD. If you change plans (upgrade / downgrade) or change credit card then ensure you do this from a standard NZ IP without the unblocking service.
I suddenly has Netflix stop working/cancel also just today. Looks like my credit card expired at the end of 2017 and Netflix never sent a notification email (or email was never received). I talked with Netflix and they, of course, said they have no issues but this may be the root cause for a number of others too. Restarting subscription may require a a change of password, new plan selection and then updated credit card info. Happy viewing.
So I cancelled my Netflix subscription on the netflix website but after that, whenever i tried to download new apps on my ipad it always said payment method incorrect which makes no sense because i am not buying anything or subscribed to anything so it does not matter that there is no money on my card. 4 months later i am sick of this "payment method incorrect"nonsense to i made sure my card had enough money and tried to download my items again. i was then charged for Netflix. i received the notification on my phone reference Itunes but i received no email with a receipt and the charge is not even on my purchase history. i tried to sign in to netflix again to check if it still cancelled and i was asked if i wanted to have a new streaming plan - this just proves that my membership was cancelled but on my subscriptions in my settings it just says expired. Even my netflix account has no record of any billings after i cancelled my account
Regarding Netflix, you mentioned cancelling the subscription through the Netflix website. Have you checked for any subscription through your Apple ID account? If not, use the steps in these links to check for any subscription that may be active:
We received an E Mail from Netflix stating that our membership had been cancelled from 21st June 2024 because Virgin Media have informed them that our account could not be billed through our Virgin Media subscription. We haven't been informed of this by Virgin, and our July bill still includes the 10.99 charge.
We've tried phoning but none of the options fit the problem and we cannot get hold of a human operator. The online chat also has no option that fits and can't understand the query. We've also sent an E Mail to vmt...@virginmedia.co..uk but not received a reply.
Thanks, Cardiffman (a fellow countryman), we've tried some of the methods your complaint suggestion mentions (both phone numbers and the web chat) but not by letter or web form - so we'll try both of those.
They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.
Not clear if they are just checking geo location vs subscription. And putting a higher weighting on folks not streaming from Turkey IP addresses.
Maybe if you VPN into Turkey and watch from Turkey for a while, it may keep you active.
I re-join it after they cancelling mine 2 days ago. I have to use Netflix gc to make it works. However, when I want to continue the program I was watching before the cancellation, I MUST use VPN Turkey, otherwise, it flow an error and can't watch anything. Does anyone has similar issue after re-joining?
@Mistredo: Normal that I now have to use Turkey VPN to watch? Is that because I just re join due to their one sided cancellation? Is that perm or only for 1 or 2 months? I never need to use VPN to watch in the past. Thanks
@pedantique: I went back to check and looks like geolock was introduced around mid 2023 mentioned in this post. So if you had signed up before then you wouldn't have gotten it, however, all new Turkey subscription has had it ever since.
FAQ
Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.
What are you on about? Netflix is a paid media service, not a essential service or utility. If the quality is bad and the price is high, you can simply not use it, they have no obligation to provide value based on your tastes and personal income. Then you don't get to watch it. They clearly don't need you as a customer if you don't even pay full price, otherwise they wouldn't be booting people right now.
@Guybrush57: Plenty of other subscriptions have increase since their release, it's really not a shit tonne of money compared to what else Aussies spend money on. You cant really compare to the cheapest countries, as you aren't living there and getting paid in that currency. Anyway in reality it's only twice as much as Turkey now.
@jetblack: Haha bravo, I agree. I've just lost my Netflix service and a few dollars, but I am not going to chase down a few bucks when I knowingly was breaking their terms, that's on me. I've saved plenty, now they are cracking down, as a good business should, time to move on.
If people can't afford it the right way, then it's not for them, it's not a necessity like water & electricity FFS.
I swear there is a lot of child-like entitled behaviour here, it's perplexing.
I'm not saying you're the bad guys, but I am saying it's hypocritical to try gaming the system, and then cry about it when the system stops you from gaming them. Maybe you personally aren't upset over it, but you can see that there are plenty of others in this comment section that are.
Is that screen shot from a PC?
Were you accessing Netflix over a VPN?
Same boat of account signed out, but fam mostly watches on a TV/Tablet - which isn't on a VPN - so dont know if I want to go the GC route.
@CodeXD: Gave it a good crack,
Signed up at turgame and attempted to buy a card twice, but payment wouldn't process.
Was able to get a turkish gift card from G2A and redeem it.
But netflix wouldn't let me redeem it, it kept showing the price in euro at the ro-en website. Might need a different VPN?
Now I'm not able to sign in to netflix while on VPN through turkey
there's only ever 1 or 2 shows at a time on netflix that i wanna watch anyway, usually less or none. they picked the perfect time to axe my membership this time though with DTS S6 and Avatar being aired now. I'm sure this timing is no coincidence and it's been thought through by netflix to get people on to legit aus subs. i'll give this win to them for my past 3 years of 'exploitation'. i'll be going back to my old sources. forget netflix.

While Netflix is specific to region/country due to content licensing and currency of the payment. We have noticed the activity on your account does not match the same & this activity is not aligned with the practices to the country you are in.

As a merchant Netflix has identified the activity on your account does not match with the rightful practice of Netflix, we will report this activity to your bank also when they connect with us for any disputed charge.
No skin in this game, I just steal content now as the streaming services got too shit. Just seems a bit dodgy the way they're wording it. I know everyone knows what's going on and the later stuff about content licences etc is their real problem.
