17th Anniversary Nygaard Pentathlon presented by the SCRC

The 17^th Anniversary of the Nygaard Pentathlon presented by the SCRC returns and will take place November 10th at the Valley High School track (& Aspen Active Health Club) from noon ‘til 3:00PM. The namesake, Brian Nygaard, will again serve as honorary grand marshal. Rob Best will coordinate the event. The format:

400m run

Shot put (12 lb. shot for men, 9 lb. shot for women)

Standing broad jump

Bench press (One minute time limit: 115 lbs. for men, 85 lbs. for women)

1500m run

See the (attached) official male scoring matrix. The weights and scores will be adjusted accordingly for the female division.

 

Important information regarding the competition:

• Scoring. You can score more than 200 points in a single event. And you will be awarded points, based as a percentage, for times and distances that fall between the ten point increments on the scoring matrix.
• There will be multiple heats of the 400; stay in your lane. The 1500 will be in two heats each with a waterfall start.
• For all running events: if someone falls within the first 100m due to a lack of coordination or as the result a blatant push or trip we’ll restart.
• Race day registrations are accepted but discouraged.
• At the conclusion of each event the winner plus one random participant will be required to visit the doping controls.

The order of the events is not up for debate. You must make a genuine attempt at each of the five events. Mr. Nygaard reserves the right to change the rules without prior notice. Official rulings will be decided by Mr. Nygaard. Mr. Nygaard will handle all complaints and protests in whatever timely manner he sees fit.

 

At the conclusion of the competition there will be one final opportunity to injure yourself in the 4 X 100 Relay. Competitors will be divided into teams of four with one goal: get the stick around the track as quickly as possible. Relay teams will be predetermined based on perceived athleticism, combativeness, personal bias and early registration. Following the 4X100 Relay post event smacktalk will take place at Raccoon River Brewery.
