Percy's real first name is Percival. Albus Dumbledore's second name is
also Percival. Though there are several versions of the name, one
definition is from French, meaning "pierce the veil", and I must say
this has an interesting connotation regarding the veil in the Death
Room....

>From Wikipedia: "Percival or Perceval is one of King Arthur's
legendary Knights of the Round Table. In Welsh literature his name is
Peredur (see the Peredur article for the historical figure). He is
most famous for his involvement in the quest for the Holy Grail.

Scenes from Perceval, from a medieval illumination. There are many
versions of Percival's birth. In most accounts he is of noble birth;
his father is either King Pellinore or another worthy knight. His
mother is usually unnamed but plays a significant role in the stories.
His sister is the bearer of the Holy Grail, she is sometimes named
Dindrane. In tales where he is Pellinore's son his brothers are Sir
Tor, Sir Aglovale, Sir Lamorak, and Sir Dornar.

After the death of his father, Percival's mother takes him to the
Welsh forests where she raises him ignorant to the ways of men until
the age of 15. Eventually, however, a group of knights passes through
his wood, and Percival is stricken with their heroic appearance.
Wanting to be a knight himself, the boy travels to King Arthur's
court, and after proving his worthiness as a warrior he is knighted
and invited to join the Knights of the Round Table.

Even in the earliest stories he is connected to the Grail Quest. In
Chrétien de Troyes's Perceval, le Conte du Graal, he meets the
crippled Fisher King and sees the Holy Grail, but he fails to ask the
question that would heal the injured monarch. Upon learning of his
mistake he vows to find the Grail castle again and fulfill his quest.

Galahad, Bors, and Percival achieve the GrailIn later accounts, the
true Grail hero is Galahad, Lancelot's son. But though his role in the
romances had been diminished, Percival remained a major character and
was one of only two knights (the other was Sir Bors) who accompanied
Galahad to the Grail castle and completed the quest with him.

In early versions, Percival's sweetheart was Blanchefleur and he
became the King of Carbonek after healing the Fisher King, but in
later versions he was a virgin who died after achieving the Grail. In
Wolfram's version, Percival's son is Lohengrin, the Knight of the
Swan.

In modern times his story has been used in such varied retellings as
T.S. Eliot's modernist poem The Waste Land, Richard Wagner's opera
Parsifal, John Boorman's Excalibur and the novel and film The Natural.

While some scholars once believed that Percival, along with the legend
of the Holy Grail, was of Persian origin, those theories have been
rejected by the weight of scholarly opinion. In that legend, as
described in the Fargads of the Vendidad (see Avesta) and later, in
verse, in the Shahnameh, Jamshid had a magical seven-ringed cup filled
with the elixir of immortality. The cup was said to be in (the hands
of) the Parsi-Var, or Var of the Persians, thus giving rise to the
speculation that the character of Percival was derived from this
legend.

Chrétien wrote the first story of Percival; Wolfram von Eschenbach's
Parzival, Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, and the theoretical
Perceval of Robert de Boron are other famous accounts of his
adventures."

So, Percival had at least 4 brothers and at least one sister. This
would make 6 children, not 7. However Molly had six pregnancies --
the fourth produced a set of twins. Actually, Sir Tor is a half-
brother... and so is Feirefiz (see below). Okay, so even though they
are not all full-blood siblings, this gives Percival 5 "brothers" and
one sister.

Sir Tor was a product of rape (his mother was "half-forced" by King
Pellinore), then his mother married King Ars (sometimes a shepard
named Aries). Sir Tor has 12 half-brothers.

Sir Aglovale (or Agloval) de Galis is King Pellinore's eldest
*legitimate* son.

Sir Lamorak was also fathered by King Pellinore, and he is sometimes
said to have been King Arthur's third-best knight.

According to Wikipedia, "In Arthurian Legend, Dindrane (Welsh:
Danbrann; also named Dindraine, Heliabel, or Agrestizia, depending on
the sources) is the sister (sometimes the half-sister) of Percival.
Though she is frequently not given a name, Percival's sister is a
major character in many of the Holy Grail stories and is sometimes
claimed as the "Grail heroine".

Dindrane first meets her brother after his return to his mother's
castle, where Dindrane explains to him about his mother's death after
his departure. In some sources he leaves Dindrane in the care of their
hermit uncle; in others he leaves her behind in the Castle of Maidens.
She later meets up with Galahad, Bors, and Percival, telling them who
she is (she does not mention her name prior to that). She proceeded to
inform them about the Sword of the Strange Belt, the magical ship, and
the Tree of Life and other aspects of her destiny.

The travellers boarded the ship, intent to complete the task of
finding the Holy Grail. After leaving the ship, they encounter a
castle with a leprous mistress. Dindrane decides to give her own blood
to the lady in order to heal the lady's leprosy, and dies in doing so.
She left directions that her body was to be set adrift in a boat
(without a crew) to float to the holy city of Sarras. Lancelot finds
the ship that carried her corpse and Dindrane is buried in Palais
Esperitel. Galahad, along with Bors, later find the vessel containing
her body when they land on the port of Sarras (after which they
proceed to find the Grail)."

Feirefiz is a half-brother of Percival, and he has black and white
patches of skin. He could not see the grail until he converted and was
baptized as a Christian.

Let us not forget Percival's uncle, King Arthur. Except in the
Potterverse, Arthur is Percival's father. It's interesting that the
Arthurian Percival's mother goes unnamed, even though she's important
to the stories. I guess that left it open for Jo to choose any name
she thought appropriate for Mrs. Weasley. Molly, a pet form of Mary,
is an interesting choice....

It's also interesting that Percival's sister made a gift of blood
(blood donation) to save someone's life, and that this turned out to
be a fatal blood self-sacrifice. Remember how Voldemort TOOK blood
from Harry in the graveyard scene, and how Dumbledore later made a
blood sacrifice (offering) to enter the inner chamber of the cave.

I wonder how many more blood sacrifices we'll see....
