Hi all,

following what was decided in LibreOffice conference call on
July, 30th ([1] 'WebDAV: switch to Serf? (Michael S./Giuseppe C.)' topic, towards the end),
I'll start a comparison on the possible use of serf wrt neon.

I did some work with serf in Apache OpenOffice ([2][3]) so the implementation part should
not be a problem, the only question I have is about a new serf home.

On a forum thread (starts Mar, 12th) there was a discussion about choosing
a new 'home' for serf. Has a decision been made on that?

From the svn log I gathered that 1.4.0 was near release, I think that when serf founds a new home it will be released, right?

Thank you.

Interesting, let us know if you have questions/need help with yr use of serf.

That conversation hasn't been finalised no. The general consensus was
to knock on the ASF's door (since almost all of us are ASF
committers/members), but again, that decision hasn't been made yet.

Those two things are not related. In fact, as soon as someone finds
the time to review the open 1.4.0 TODO's, we'll release 1.4.0.
I hope that can be done in the next weeks.

Lieven

Interesting, let us know if you have questions/need help with yr use of serf.

actually there is one, asked for in the LO dev list by a LO core dev [1]: if serf can use NSS instead of OpenSSL
I answered that according to what I know it's not possible.

May be in the future NSS will be possible ?

Replacing OpenSSL by NSS is certainly possible, although it'll require
a change to the API which is not backwards compatible.
This will require some refactoring in serf, but a lot of that work has
been done already in the - now obsolete - work to implement Apple's
Secure Transport.

This being said, I don't see any of the current serf devs having a
need for other SSL implementations - or one would have been
implemented a long time ago - so the chances for getting NSS support
in serf in the near future are slim.

In the sense of "us" working on it ... I think we'd have no problem incorporating patches to support NSS.

Cheers,
