Hello Jim,

As reported on http://communities.vmware.com/message/2259799 , the vSphere Big Data Extensions Administrator's and User's Guide listed the wrong URL with which register the plug-in. This has since been corrected, and a new version of the documentation has been uploaded to the Big Data Extensions Documentation forum.

As has been stated above, the correct URL with which to register the Big Data Extensions plug-in is:

     http://management-server-ip-address:8080/register-plugin

You can find this correction on page 11 of the vSphere Big Data Extensions Administrator's and User's Guide.

Hello,

I also have had this problem, and now thank's to your answer the Big Data Extension has been successfully installed :)
However, when I try to connect to it to the Serengeti Management Server, I get this error message :

Connection failed!
Ensure that the Serengeti vApp is correctly deployed and that you have network access.

The VM is on, I access it by the CLI... Is there something I've messed?

Thanks in advance,

Nico

Thanks, I found it shortly after I posted this question.

I also had the same issue as Nicolas but using the EnableSSOAuth command on the mangemnt ser to connect to the lookup service worked.
Thanks

Exactly. BDE plugin needs the management servers to enable vc sso in order to access it passwordless. When you deploy a vapp, you can enable sso by inputting the vc sso lookup service connection url, or you can enable it later by running EnableSSOAuth with vc sso lookup service url as Jim mentioned below.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for all your replies.
I've tried to type the following command : EnableSSOAuth https://my-vcenter:7444/lookupservice/sdk but I get this error message :

Intializing registration provider...
Getting SSL certificates for https://p-monitoring-vc.rd.francetelecom.fr:7444/lookupservice/sdk
com.vmware.vim.vmomi.core.exception.CertificateValidationException: Server certificate assertion not verified and thumbprint not matched
Return code is: SslHandshakeFailed
Please check if sso lookup serivce https url is correct, and sso services work normally.

I've verified on the vCenter admin page (it's the vCenter vApp, with SSO embedded), and the SSO service is running.
Whereas, when I type this URL on my web navigator, I get this message :

<soapenv:Envelope>
    <soapenv:Body>
        <soapenv:Fault>
            <faultcode>ServerFaultCode</faultcode>
            <faultstring>Unexpected EOF in prolog at [row,col {unknown-source}]: [1,0]</faultstring>
            <detail>
                <RuntimeFaultFault xsi:type="vim25:InvalidRequest"/>
            </detail>
         </soapenv:Fault>
    </soapenv:Body>
</soapenv:Envelope>

I think it's a vCenter problem, have you already seen this kind of issue?

Thanks in advance,

Nico

Hi Nico,

Please try https://my-vcenter-ip:7444/lookupservice/sdk, or https://my-vcenter-hostname:7444/lookupservice/sdk
Sometimes if sso is configured to use ip as the identity, and we input hostname, or reverse, we will meet this "Server certificate assertion not verified and thumbprint not matched" error.

Thanks.
