We doesn't use BOSH, instead use Ironfan (https://github.com/vmware-serengeti/ironfan) to do the VM provisioning and software provisioning (based on Chef technology).

Thanks Jesse for quick response.

Is Ironfan functionally equivalent to BOSH?

Is Ironfan widely used in the industry?

Hi shair,  Ironfan is used to deploy software application in a cluster composing of several VMs (virtual machine).  Ironfan supports deploying Hadoop cluster, HBase, Zookeeper cluster, etc.  you can find all the software supported by Ironfan on https://github.com/infochimps-labs/ironfan-pantry/tree/master/cookbooks .

I'm not the right person to say whether Ironfan is widely used in the industry or not.  You can ask it in ironfan users mailing list : https://groups.google.com/a/infochimps.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/ironfan-users

Ironfan and BOSH both can deploy software application.  BOSH can support many kind of apps (J2EE, Ruby, Rails, Node.js, ...), and has more focus on supporting multi programming language.  While Ironfan is good at deploying app in a cluster, and has more focus on Hadoop and NoSQL related cluster.

Hi Shair. I'm the lead developer on Ironfan, here at Infochimps.

BOSH is more focused on deploying CloudFoundry, while we tend more
toward big-data installations (e.g. Hadoop, ElasticSearch, etc.). That
said, they look fairly close in core aim, if not implementation. We're
currently tied to AWS, but the Serengeti fork has paved the way for a
vSphere implementation (which is in the pipeline).

In addition to powering all of our customer and internal deploys,
Ironfan has a small but growing following in the industry. We're doing
a webcast ( https://www4.gotomeeting.com/register/188375087 ) later
this week, and we've got a discussion list for further inquiries (
groups.google.com/a/infochimps.com/group/ironfan-users ).

Cheers,
