Set time zone?

Is there some way to specify a default time zone for a connection? I
use Amazon RDS a lot and all their database instances are always in
UTC (not changeable). I have to run SET time_zone='US/Pacific' every
time I connect. Would be great if this could be automated. In fact,
it would be even more great if you could specify a block of arbitrary
SQL commands to run when connecting. Save a default block for all
connections, and specific blocks per bookmark.
