thread to document issues encountered
thus far, affecting my pages directly
  • integrals are shown in large mode by default when appearing in exponents
  • when raising an expression with an \overline to a power, the exponent is larger than it should be and directly above the overline
  • using \mathop{a}\limits_{b} is not equivalent to \underset{b}{a}
the MathJax implementation seems to behave identically in all regards to MathML, suggesting the setting is broken; MathJax in my personal website renders correctly (and builds equations out of formatted Unicode characters), and for the most part I agree with David Eppstein regarding MathML (at least when it comes to the deformed text-based rather than image-based rendering we have now).

as well as the problems discussed here, the fact that lines can intersect is pretty egregious too

in my page an introduction to Stirling numbers, I define a more convenient variant of the Mellin transform that turns ordinary powers into rising powers, denoted by overlining the \mathcal M, then give a table of transforms.

the \overline followed by a power is wrong; the exponent is centred above it, it appears to be recognised like an \overbrace would.

this is a change of behaviour from before the MediaWiki update, that misaligns oeis.org/wiki from Wikipedia and math.stackexchange and MathJax's default settings.
