Architecture wise - I would say that the Korg radias is in some ways a rip off of the KS-Rack - 4 timbres, Samples and Drum PCM sound based synthesis as well as regulary VA waves. Has 3 oscs and noise, fx are primitive but useable. Has some nice little feature up it sleave that actually make this one of the more analog feeling synths around - and I dont mean it sounds especially analog, but there is definately something about it sometimes that puts me in mind of some vintage synths - cant really put my finger on exactly what tho - maybe its underlying slight grunginess and subtle randomness when certain features are switched on - it just isnt clean like alot of more recent/higher VAs - or just maybe it has much lower quality / older DACs that works as a pleasent contrast to my other synths.

My main use for it these days is as a bass synth. Very easy and hands on to program, but there alot buried in menus too. Due to it sample based synthesis the you can get a broad pallette of sounds out of it. The drum sounds aint bad either - very useable, and as it doenst realy ditinguise betwen drum and instrument waves, then you can pitch a kick in combination with a bass sound to get some nice deep bass sounds out of it.

These things are dirt cheap - you cant loose with them - can still sometimes find them new. Mine has to hold its own against some quite high end new synths and it manages well, though I do use it much as a lead synth any more, but its certainly fine for that too.

Glitching referred to above - yes - older version of the OS had glitching issues - this seems to have been fixed. The sound of the KS-Rack is based on the usualy novation engine, but it aint the same as the V and K. Very close for alot of sounds, but can sound quite different too as novation were freuently messing with the filter and overdrive between flavours of the engine.

It's the best sounding VA I have heard, along with the Supernova II. I had one alongside an A6 for quite awhile and the K-station was remarkably close, unlike many other synths I tried alongside (the Virus, Micro Q, Nord Lead 2, etc).

Anyways, I love this synth. I have the KS-5 and think it sounds and looks great. And it is a upgraded synth based on the K/V-station, but definitely more capable. For some reason, it reminds a bit of the Korg Prophecy. Does that sound weird, but it does.

I prefer the Virus although the KS had a very definite future sound to it which I loved. The sound is kinda plastic sounding and mid rangey at times but I found that really really nice and different...

Has the knob self-editing in fact been fixed? I played one at guitar center and it sucked. I would start playing the keys and the knob values would start jumping around and fcuk up the patch! I swear this problem plagued over half of the KS4s and KS5s that were made and was the reason I never got one (love the sound).

As far as I remember yes. I think they just made it so that edit mode would only happen if the knobs were turned a few degrees rather than instantly (I would think every synth manufacturer would do that)..

I'm not positive, but I believe that the KS has the same sound engine as the newer Novation X-Station. It might be easier to find sound files for that to give you a general idea of what it sounds like.

Not pictured are a Virus TI, Sherman FB2 and another Mobius. I prefer 19" rackable equipment all day long to desk top units. The move away from from either/or form factors is a huge drag to me. Racked gear is protected, cable management is less of a hassle and it all takes up a smaller foot print.

Novation A-Station, released in 2001, in many respects is a symbiosis of Bass Station and Supernova. At first glance, the interface is very similar to "Bass", but its internal elements have a number of features sported by Supernova. Its housing is designed to fit a 1U space rack.

The voice part of the sound module is based on the Supernova, and operates on the principle of analog simulation. The unit has an 8-voice polyphony. The synthesizer comprises 3 oscillators with waveforms: saw, triangular, sine with additional PWM (pulse width modulation). It also offers an ordinary FM-synthesis, making the voices more sonorous and sharp. There is also a dual LFO (bass generator) with Sample&Hold, MIDI synchronization and a low-pass resonance type filter (12 or 24 db).

The interface is quite intuitive and easy to use. There are 200 factory presets featured in the synth, which are a reminiscence of atmospheric genres, such as: Trance, Ambient, and in some way - New Age.

As for the effects, A-Station includes reverb, delay, chorus, distortion and vocoder. The 12-band vocoder allows you to process external mono sounds, which can be used as a generating source, and processed with a filter and envelopes.

The Supernova 2 rack (and it's keyboard sibling) are analog-modeling synthesizers with a multitude of knobs for real-time control. Unlike the earlier Supernova, the Supernova 2 allows for routing external audio through the filter and effects, and even includes a vocoder.
