The episodes of the Vampire Knight anime adaptation is based on the manga series of the same name written by Matsuri Hino. They are directed by Kiyoko Sayama, and produced by Studio Deen and Nihon Ad Systems. The plot of the episodes follows Yuki Cross, a student at the Cross Academy, where she acts as a guardian of the "Day Class" along with vampire hunter Zero Kiryu from the secret vampires of the "Night Class" led by Kaname Kuran.

The first season premiered on TV Tokyo in Japan on April 7, 2008, and ran for thirteen episodes until the season's conclusion on June 30, 2008. The episodes were aired at later dates on TV Aichi, TV Hokkaido, TV Osaka, TV Setōchi, and TVQ Kyushu Broadcasting Co. The second season, named Vampire Knight Guilty, premiered on the same station on October 6, 2008 and ran until its conclusion on December 29, 2008.[1][2] As of December 2008, five DVD compilations of the first season have been released by Aniplex and Sony Pictures between July 23, 2008 and November 26, 2008.[3] The first DVD compilation for the second season was released by Aniplex on January 28, 2009,[4] and the second compilation was released on February 25, 2009.[5]

Four pieces of theme music are used for the episodes: two opening themes and two closing themes. The opening theme for the first season is "Futatsu no Kodō to Akai Tsumi" (ふたつの鼓動と赤い罪) by On/Off, and the closing theme is "Still Doll" by Kanon Wakeshima. The opening theme of the second season is "Rinne Rondo" (輪廻-ロンド-) by On/Off, and the ending theme is "Suna no Oshiro" (砂のお城) by Kanon Wakeshima. The original soundtrack for the series was released on June 25, 2008.[7]

The Region 2 DVD compilations of the Vampire Knight episodes are released in Japan by Aniplex and Sony Pictures. As of November 2008, five DVD compilations have been released, containing the entire first season.[3] The first DVD compilation for the second season was released on January 28, 2009, and the last was released on May 27, 2009.[8]

If you wonder why there are two kinds of volume above, in Japan, usually "volume" as we know it called tankoubon, and bunkouban is a tankoubon with more pages, thus why bunkouban has less volume. Further reading in Wikipedia about those formats.

Should be, because the anime only caught up to vol. 10 and when all season of Vampire Knight anime ended, the manga was still ongoing. You can see it based on the year the anime and manga ended at Wikipedia's page of Vampire Knight.

Further, I didn't watch the anime and only read its manga till the end, but seeing Wikipedia's page of List of Vampire Knight episodes, seeing the story of the last episode of Vampire Knight: Guilty, I can tell you that's not how the manga ended.

Whether it's worth or not, it's up to each reader. But if you want to know the "official" ending (I said "official", because the manga is the original source), then it's recommended to read the manga, because the manga did finish it off.

To be exact, the anime deviated from the manga slightly near to the end as instead of Zero and Yuki being on a roof, Zero is standing on a platform made entirely of the thorn vines from Bloody Rose. Also, Kaname killed all the Vampire Senate, not just Ichijo and the guards at the very end. After that, there is a time skip until Cross Academy is rebuilt and running again and Kaname is now living with Yuki.

Pretty much from the small discrepancies at the end of the anime, you can start reading from Chapter 49 (Volume 11 - 49th Night) and not really miss out, though I would just start reading from chapter 1 again to read the Bonus/Extra stories that most volumes came with (I don't know how much they add, but I seem to recall a small story of Kaien caring for little Yuki)

Since the series continues on after Yuki leaves Cross Academy with Kaname, there is more information as we learn more about Purebloods and what happened between Kaname's Parents and Rido, particularly why in the anime Juri says that Rido "already killed one of her children" when Kaname never mentions another sibling apart from Yuki.

We also learn more about the Vampire Hunters and why their weapons are so effective against Vampires, and finally learn that Kaname's real end goal is for his past actions (killing Shizuka Hio, wiping out the senate, making Zero what he is)

Of course, whether or not you accept that it's the end is another matter. Since there have been no new releases afterward, there doesn't seem to be any plans to continue after Chapter 93. There's probably fan fiction and doujinshi floating around, but these wouldn't be considered as canon (e.g. Yuki making Sayori a vampire and becoming a couple forever)

NowForSomeSpoilerSpaceSo Kaname's plan worked well - Zero turned into a super vampire killer and
was able to destroy Lido with ease.BTW - maybe it was his name, but I difficulty accepting Lido as a serious
danger for anyone. To me, "Lido" sounds like it should be the name of a male
hairdresser from Newport Beach. With his revenge complete, Kaname prepared to leave the school forever.
Vampire Princess Yuuki met with Zero one last time. Zero refused to accept
Yuuki as a vampire unless she drank his blood, so in a very effective scene
Yuuki bit Zero's neck and drank his blood, but without any enthusiasm and
with tears running down her face. Zero reminded Yuuki of her promise to kill
him when he became a vampire, and then told her that he would some day have
to kill her now that she was a vampire. Yuuki promised that they would
someday meet again, and that Zero should wait for her. Then Yuuki packed her suitcase and surprised Kaname who was getting ready to
leave by himself. Kaname told Yuuki not to come because she had an important
person to protect at the school, but Yuuki replied that she had a different
important person - Kaname - to protect and that she would go with him
wherever he went. So they left together, along with a few of the other
vampire students who were the most loyal to Kaname, regardless of how Kaname
had used them in the past. And in one of the most subtly powerful scenes in an episode full of powerful
scenes, Cross caught up with Yuuki and Kaname. After acting silly again for
a moment, Cross resumed his serious Vampire Hunter King persona and formally
entrusted Yuuki's well-being to Kaname, who accepted the responsibility with
equal seriousness. So everyone walked out into the sunrise to begin their
futures.Dave Baranyi

Technically, Yuuki was a vampire all along, just that hermemories were buried deep into the back of her mind, so it coveredit up and made her believe she was human. Her vampire past isawakened when she starts to remember it, and is finally bitten byKaname Kuran in chapter 35 of the manga, or episode 7 on VampireKnight Guilty, which awakens her Pureblood side and brings her torealise that Kaname is both her brother and fiance.

Iconic supernatural romance manga, Vampire Knight received two 13-episode anime seasons from Studio Deen in 2008, with a single OVA also airing that same year. While the success and popularity of this well-known vampire/dark fantasy story encouraged the studio to release plenty of content 13 years ago, fans are still waiting for the anime series to be completed. Here's what's happened in Vampire Knight so far and the likelihood it will one day receive a Season 3.

Vampire Knight stars Yuki Cross, a student at the Cross Academy boarding school who was adopted by the school's headmaster when she was a child. Yuki no longer remembers her childhood, with her first memory being when Kaname Kuran saved her from a vampire attack. Given her gratitude toward Kaname since the beginning, her admiration turns into a long-lasting crush that initially appears one-sided because he's a royal pureblood and she's merely a human. However, Kaname's true feelings begin to reveal when Yuki's childhood friend, Zero, makes his love for her apparent.

Despite being a vampire hunter who loathes vampires, Zero ironically becomes one himself and Yuki offers him her blood to help ease his thirst. Zero reluctantly accepts out of necessity but feels disgusted by what he's become. While he spirals into psychological warfare with himself, his hold on Yuki slips further away despite his desire to protect her.

In an unexpected and eventful Season 2, Vampire Knight fans were shocked to discover Yuki is also a pureblood vampire whose true identity is reawakened by Kaname's bite. Despite their romantic love for one another, viewers were taken aback when it was revealed the two share a sibling relationship and have been betrothed since they were children. After her long-lost memories of her childhood finally return, the series ends with Yuki choosing to leave Cross Academy with Kaname. As a brutal vampire hunter at the time of her departure, Zero vows to kill Yuki the next time they meet -- and she accepts his dark promise.

Vampire Knight debuted in 2008 with a highly popular Season 1 adaptation of Matsuri Hino's manga. The series was quickly renewed for its second season, titled Vampire Knight: Guilty, which also aired and concluded at the end of 2008. While two seasons in quick succession gave fans hope for further content and a completed storyline, the anime surprisingly ended after Season 2.

Despite the buzz around Vampire Knight, the anime's source material began in 2004 and didn't conclude until 2013. Because it aired while the manga was still in the middle of its run, the series may have simply run out of content to use. The rapid success and demand for the anime outpaced Vampire Knight's manga and its ability to provide a complete conclusion to the series. By the time the manga finished in 2013, Studio Deen may have decided to abandon the series for other projects after having to wait for more source material.

As it's been over a decade since Vampire Knight ended its anime run, it's highly unlikely Studio Deen will reprise the series for a Season 3. While there is no news of the anime being renewed or officially canceled, fans can hold on to the slim hope that it will eventually get an extension thanks to its lasting popularity. In the meantime, the completed story of Yuki and her journey through love and bloodlust is available to readers willing to pick up the manga for long-awaited answers.
