Dear colleagues,
On Thursday, April 16 at 12:30 PM Eastern Time (17:30 UK, 18:30 Spain, 19:30 Israel), the Sephardi Modernities Seminar Series will welcome Orit Ouaknine-Yekutieli . Her talk is titled Between Israel and Morocco: Jewish Moroccan Cultural Displays in the Homeland and the Diaspora
Dr. Ouaknine-Yekutieli will explore how Moroccan Jewish culture has been reshaped across Israel and Morocco in the decades following mass migration. From early marginalization in Israel to contemporary revival and heritage-making, and from absence to symbolic presence in Morocco, she traces how memory, identity, and cultural expression are negotiated across borders. Bringing these trajectories into dialogue, she highlights the transnational dynamics that continue to shape Moroccan Jewish life and its meanings today.
As some of you already know, the Sephardi Modernities Seminar Series encourages active engagement between speakers and participants, and we warmly invite you all to join and share your comments and reflections.
We’ve attached the seminar poster—not only because it’s beautiful (many thanks to the one and only Neta Elkayam), but also because it includes information about this session as well as previous ones.
We look forward to sharing this space with you all!
