Hi Fiona,
I invite you to explore the SEPAL documentation: https://docs.sepal.io/en/latest/
“SEPAL is a cloud computing-based platform for autonomous land monitoring using remotely sensed data. It is a combination of GEE and open-source software such as GDAL, Jupyter, the Open Foris Geospatial Toolkit, ORFEO Toolbox, Python, R, R Shiny Server, R Studio Server, and SNAP Toolkit. The platform allows users to access powerful cloud-computing resources to query, access and process satellite data quickly and efficiently for creating advanced analyses.”
You will notice when opening the interface that it is not like GEE – there are different applications, prepared recipes, modules, and for example you can run R Studio or Python in the cloud without having to install any local software.
You can find answers to your cost question under resources tab: https://docs.sepal.io/en/latest/setup/resource.html
“SEPAL provides free access to computation resources that are shared among registered users.
Some actions or projects may require more storage to perform analysis at the province or country level; other actions or projects may require more instances to perform heavier computation processes. If you need more storage or instances, you can submit a quota request to the SEPAL team by following the instructions”
For more information on SEPAL and activities you can visit the FAO website: https://www.fao.org/in-action/sepal/overview/en
Best,
Aurélie
