I found a template ( -app/pi-hole-api) that should allow monitoring of tons of data available thru the pi-hole api. I have added the two servers as hosts in zabbix, and installed the template, and have the template associated with the two servers, and added the API key as the template directions instruct. But I get graphs with no data. My suspicion is that this is because zabbix doesn't really know how to talk to the server, as defined. I know this is due to my ignorance, but I can't quite understand how that's supposed to happen. Am I required to install zabbix agent software on the pi-hole server? If so, this wasn't clear (to me, an admitted n00b) from the linked page above. If not an agent, how do I fill in the Interfaces section of the host configuration page? I'm guessing that zabbix can't expect an agent everywhere, so there must be some other way. I also see a template for brocade, but surely there's no expectation that I'm going to install an agent there, right? Any help, including links to useful "getting started, but not monitoring normal servers" documentation would be helpful.

Lastly install the missing components needed to run Zabbix again
apt-get install --only-upgrade zabbix-server-mysql zabbix-frontend-php zabbix-agent zabbix-apache-conf
apt-get install zabbix-server-mysql
apt install php
apt install php-gd php-ldap openipmi fping php-mbstring php-bcmath

I looked up zabbix in the options for configuration.nix and found a lot. Most promissing looking was services.zabbixServer.enable. I set that to true in my config and rebuilt it. This seems to have worked:

The error message indicates that services.zabbixWeb.virtualHost is used but not defined. The solution to this is most likely to define a value for that option. You can find the documentation for services.zabbixWeb.virtualHost here:

Hi there, @speculatrix,
Of course, zabbix users want to have monitor on one place, as much as possible.
Here are some basic checking for zabbix according to manual: _agent (part of proc.num, i.e. checking if process is active, at least one for each monitored instance)

if some of the items are updating, and some are not, there must be some difference between them. could it be that some are zabbix passive items, and some are active items ? if so, figure out why some category has stopped working.as you have added, querying for items is working, so maybe they have been set to be active items ? you can see that in item properties.

Note: I did try docker-compose --profile=all -f docker-compose_v3_alpine_mysql_latest.yaml logs but I get no mention of the image/container for zabbix-docker_db_data_mysql_1. Is there a way to filter the logs by image that is not grep?

In the Zabbix UI, ensure that your hostname matches the value referenced byzabbix_host. Create the item with the key as it appears in the fieldreferenced by zabbix_key. In the item configuration window, ensure that thetype dropdown is set to Zabbix Trapper. Also be sure to set the type ofinformation that Zabbix should expect for this item.

Add a unique ID to the plugin configuration. If no ID is specified, Logstash will generate one.It is strongly recommended to set this ID in your configuration. This is particularly usefulwhen you have two or more plugins of the same type. For example, if you have 2 zabbix outputs.Adding a named ID in this case will help in monitoring Logstash when using the monitoring APIs.

Parameter zabbix_host can be set with multiple hostnames separated by commas.Hostnames (or IP addresses) can be followed by colon and port number. If a portnumber is not present module will use the port number defined in zabbix_port.

I have already installed zabbix agent on commserve server and everything is good
but I did not find any template to integrate it, for example the controllers of the teches... the state of the backups..

Hi,
We want to trial Zabbix but so far, it has been impossible.

We tried with the ISO first but after booting up it was stuck with an error message:
-...due-to-timeout Opens a new window
"Been trying for 2 days to get an install to work, keep getting the centos stream 8-stream started then get Service org.fedoraproject.anaconda.modules.storage has failed to start: Failed to activate service 'org.fedoraproject.anaconda.modules.storage': timed out ( service_start_timeout=6000000ms)"

After: we tried with the OFV.... but it was not build for VMware but for virtual box .... so we had to modify the ovf file to fix all that was incompatible... and then we also got stuck at many errors post boot.
-ov...-hardware.html Opens a new window
Didn't work

So we then went with the Vmware .vmx but it wasn't compatible with Vcenters but for VmWare workstation so we needed to convert it fist and then this one also didn't work and now my techs are trying to fix the postgress errors in that "appliance).

We then decided to abandon the "pre-package easy appliance route" and we also build a CentOS from scrach and tried installing it manually on it ... my techs are trying to fix issues like
connection refused - database error
1174:20210819:141854.648 [Z3001] connection to database 'zabbix' failed: [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
1174:20210819:141854.649 database is down: reconnecting in 10 seconds

So how can we make it work easily and fast: kind of tired trying to trial this software.
Thanks

We are using vmware Vcenter 5.5 and quite surprise that they couldn't make an out of the box working appliance.

Just a suggestion, don't use CentOS. Go with a distro that's still going to be supported such as Alma Linux (or any of the others out there). CentOS 7 is EOL in 2024. CentOS 8 is EOL end of this year.

-zabbix-server-centos-8/ Opens a new window

Procedure is the same for Alma 8 as it's fully compatible. Likewise for Oracle Linux, Rocky Linux, etc. that are based off Redhat.

If you are on a machine in the RHEL family of platforms, then you will
need to install packages from the EPEL repository. The easiest way to do this
is to add the following recipe to your runlist before zabbix::agent_source

The Zabbix application programming interface is a web-based API to create new applications, automate tasks and integrate with third-party software, such as go-zabbix, Zabbix::Tiny or Zabbix sender. The JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) format is used to base the API as a front-end web interface.

There are 2 ansible roles for deployment see [2], zabbix_agent (should auto enrol hosts with server) and zabbix_server (covers deployment of zabbix server itself). The server is running RHEL9 and its running Zabbix LTS 6.x. I went with postgres db running locally on the same machine.

There is another DC in the infrastructure with the same devices. The pcap in the second DC looks very similar, there is also a lot of malformed packet and nothing else is visible in pcap. Traffic from zabbix to the servers in the other DC is working fine. There are the same models of CP and switches with the same firmware.
Any suggestions what else I can check?

The script should be placed in your AlertScriptsPath. This is usually /usr/lib/zabbix/alertscripts or /etc/zabbix/agent.d, but could be different if you installed Zabbix from non-standard packages. You can find the correct path for your particular environment by checking zabbix_server.conf in your Zabbix server configuration directory.

Hi Guys i wanted to share zabbix template for restic in dockers,
Wanted to say thanks for the restic community for this amazing software
Currently using GitHub - djmaze/resticker: Run automatic restic backups via a Docker container. as for the restic docker
