What are your most productive prospecting strategies for getting clients on Twitter?

I have been able to have a few discussions, but am not that successful in converting them to prospects and then sales.

Jim, that is an excellent question and it is not going to be a short answer.

For me, Twitter is one of my greatest resources for B2B connections and I am not so much concerned about turning prospects into customers as much as I am concerned about finding "influential" people on Twitter that will re-tweet my posts and articles.

Using tools like Klout, you can find those influential people,  give them Klout and share that on my Twitter page. It is very common that these people will, in return, give you Klout which is shared with their followers.

I look at Twitter as more of a tool to build relationships with "influential" Tweeters. Once you have established that, you will discover that they will re-tweet your posts giving you even more exposure.

So, instead of thinking about converting prospects into sales, think about building relationships with people that have a huge following... once they start re-tweeting your stuff (and in return you will have to re-tweet their stuff), you will see a lot more traffic that goes to your website/blog.

I believe where many people fail on Twitter is they do one or both of the following;
  1. Do not pay attention to who is re-tweeting and mentioning them on twitter.
  2. Do not "communicate" with those people that are.
  3. Post nothing but squeeze or landing pages
A great tool that I use to keep track of all that "communication" is Hootsuite. It will quickly allow you to review who is re-tweeting and mentioning you on Twitter so you can thank them in return and give them thanks and some re-tweets.

I did a call with Shellie who got 150,000 REAL Twitter followers in about 8 months, how she did it and what tools she uses. You will find the video and a lot of resources from "The Twitter Call with Shellie".

So, in short, think more about building relationships with powerful, influential Tweeters, share quality and you will get more attention & credibility. That will turn into more followers.

It all goes back to people won't buy from people they don't trust an Twitter is an excellent tool to build the "Know-Like-Trust" with potential clients.

Hope that helps!
