Happy Thanksgiving!

I received a call tonight asking for help for a family that is finally
able to transition out of a shelter into their own apartment. This
mother and her 4 children have been staying in a local shelter since
June and have been able to save enough money to secure an apartment of
their and are planning to move in next week! Hooray!

While this is great news and huge step for their family, there is
still a very great need. I hope that we can help.

They have no furniture, no beds, no towels, dishes etc. . . .they have
only an empty apartment.
So I write now to ask you to check your basements, attics and garages
- do you have any furniture that you'd be willing to bless them with?
Will you add an item for this family to your list as you hit the sales
this weekend?

Here is a list of needs:
FURNITURE:
-4 twin beds (mattresses at least, frames or bunks too if possible)
-1 larger bed for Mom (double or queen)
-couch
-dining/kitchen table and chairs
-dressers
-other living room furniture (coffee and.or end tables, chair,
loveseat etc)
-tv

HOUSEWARES AND MISC.:
-silverware
-pots/pans
-storage containers (or even a few boxes of ziplocks)
-serving/mixing dishes and bowls
-dishes
-toaster
-coffee maker
-pillows
-blankets
-bed linens, twin sheets for 4 beds and queen sheets for 1
-kitchen linens (dishcloths and towels, pot holders)
-vaccuum
-broom and/or mop
-small hardware set (basic screwdrivers, hammer, utility knife, duct
tape etc)
-lamps/light fixtures
-towels and washcloths
-curtains (don't worry about size - we can alter and make it work)

And of course any additional items that you know would be helpful for
a family just starting out in their own place. I'm sure that the
budget will be tight for a little while yet as they are getting
established and anything that we can provide for them would be greatly
appreciated. (For example, personal care/hygiene items like shampoo
and/or body wash or even a blow dryer, cotton balls, qtips, tissues,
toilet paper etc).

Donations can be delivered to Discovery Church at
8134 Mexico Rd.
St. Peters, Mo. 63376
(636) 978-8463
.

Please also respond back to the group as you fill a need so that we
don't end up with 4 couches and no towels.

Thank you for all that you do!

I have curtains and rods for six different windows, depending on the size.

I have taken care of bath towels, hand towels, washcloths, and shower curtain. I also have the bed pillows, queen bedding (sheets and comforter), 1 complete twin set bedding, and 2 sets of twin sheets and 1 twin comforter. I also have a set of basic cookware -pots and pans.

We have some nice roman shades in silk (no see thru) and lined.  I know that Gina also has curtains...can you use more?  We have three of them.

I have some curtains, but not all of the rods.  Apparently parts of the window attachments were left.  I will take what I have to Discovery.  She is more than welcome to have them if needed.

Sounds great, guys! I think for now we will take everything that we can get and if there are things that we end up not using (such as certain curtains etc) they will be returned to you.
Thanks so much!

I have someone with an old twin mattress + boxsprings. Not necessarily
choice, but I think usable.

Sounds great- thanks!

Let's not drop any of the large items off at Discovery until after I get some more details on the moving date and situation. Maybe could move some of those things directly to the apartment.

Guys- I have tons of stuff - I do a lot of resale-ing - so if she doesn't mind used - I can set her up I have some stuff in my basement and lots of odds and ends.  I do have a twin bedframe - if that helps for anyone that is getting the mattress and box springs.  I have dishes I could impart, etc.

Perhaps when we know more where/when - we can just bring it to her new place.  Let me know - I'll start gathering.

I have a coffeepot and some cooking pots.  I would love to know when and where the move-in is happening.  I would like to get some pantry goods to get her started in her kitchen: flour, sugar, salt...
