Buttoday, I am sitting at my desk sipping a nice cup of Gunpowder green tea, with organic lemon pith, lime pith, Myers Lemon pith, and some ground fresh ginger. The taste is astoundingly fresh! Pair that with a piece of chocolate covered Biscotti, and it puts me in the mode to write. I am playing Alan Parsons on my Zune HD, and just grooving the afternoon away. October is the reason we put up with all the heat and humidity of the deep south summers. It is gorgeous outside, and the leaves on the maple tree in our front yard have already begun to change colors.
One of the cool things about Windows 8.1 is the Windows Defender module. Windows Defender in Windows 8.1 has grown to be a full-feature product, and it now has a module to facilitate management, which is way cool. There are eleven functions in the Windows Defender module:
So, to find the status, I use the Get-MpComputerStatus function. It requires no parameters; therefore, I can simply type it in my Windows PowerShell console and receive lots of groovy information. The command and its associated output are shown in the image follows:
The CimSession takes, well a CimSession. This means that I can create a CimSession that connects to a bunch of remote computers. Therefore, I can get back status information from them all at the same time. If it is going to be something that might take a while, I can run it as a job in the background. If the command it taking too much memory, I can throttle it down a bit by using the ThrottleLimit parameter. This is great stuff.
The strength of Windows Defender is the catalog. The cool thing is that by using the Get-MpThreatCatalog function, I can examine it and see what exact threats Windows Defender actually defends. By using the Measure-Object cmdlet, I can see that there are 167,741 threats listed in my catalog as shown here:
One of the neat things to see is the different types of threats that appear in the catalog. I can do this by grouping by the threat CategoryId property as shown in the following command:
When I have a collection from the threat catalog, I decide to look through it to find the threats that are in the joke category. To do this, I use a simple Where-Object statement, and look for the word joke in the threat name. This is shown here:

This is my first posting looking for answers. I'm pretty new to Intune and Endpoint Manager. In doing some testing, I have created a configuration profile using the settings catalog. I'm trying to disable the News and Interests from the taskbar. I have applied this to my testing group. Below is a screenshot of the settings I used.
You must have installed the April 2021 Cumulative Update Preview (or May 2021 quality update), You can check if the required Feeds.admx. exist by navigating to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and locating the file. If it does not exist... that's your problem
@Rudy_Ooms_MVP I checked for Feeds.amdx and it does exist on the target machine. I should have specified it is a Windows 10 devices on version 20H2. I did see a log from the error. I attached the full log below. It stated the policy was rejected by licensing. We have M365 Business Premium.
@DuncMarsh
Did you ever find a resolution to "The system cannot find the file specified" error when using the Policy CSP option to hide News and Interests? I am getting the same error. Attached is a screenshot.
And yes, the Feeds.admx file is present on this computer.
@Amos I've been working with Intune support. They have stated that this should work with Win10 business licenses. If I manually enroll the device this setting works through Intune, but when enrolling the device using autopilot it fails. At this point Intune believes it may be a bug with Intune.
Windows 10 business licenses.... interesting. We aren't licensing Windows with M365 entitlements; just using Win10 Pro MAK licensing. They are Azure AD joined.
The users that sign in to these boxes are licensed for EMS E3, which give us the ability to manage them via Intune.
The Configuration Profiles are assigned to both the users and the devices just to cover our bases. One of those Configuration Profiles is just for OMA-URI based settings, such as the disablement of News and Interests.
@Amos @Rudy_Ooms_MVP, after working with Intune Support developers identified the issue we were having. Win 10 20H2 does not support this feature with Business licenses. This feature will be available in 21H2. This CSP as well as several other are impacted. Once I get the list from support I will post.
If anyone reading this is looking for step-by-step guidance on how to manage organization-owned or bring-your-own-device (BYOD) mobile devices and applications, be sure to review the Intune setup guide in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The setup guide is used to set rules and configure policies needed to protect access to data and networks. This integration improves the effectiveness of device management for devices enrolled and managed through Intune.

This works, but it's not a permanent fix - moving one of these windows off the main window results in this situation every time - have to go through this process each time I forget that moving a window off causes this error. Docked windows seem to be OK.
In my case, I suspect this is from poor handling of a high-resolution display by some configuration setting in Arc (2880 x 1620, 10.2, Win7), but I haven't been able to get a response on this issue yet that fixes it permanently. It's a real nuisance to be totally locked out and have to reset the normal.mxt to get control back.

Automatically create a catalog of all files, stored on your disks (HDDs, DVDs, CDs, network drives and other media storage devices): WinCatalog will automatically grab ID3 tags for music files, Exif tags and thumbnails for photos, thumbnails and basic information for video files, e-books, contents of archive files, thumbnails for images (pictures) and PDF files, ISO files, and much more.
Organize your file catalog, using virtual folders, tags (categories) and user defined fields, and find files in seconds, using powerful search, even when disks are not connected to the computer. Also easily use WinCatalog as a duplicate file finder. Your disk catalog can be automatically updated through Windows task scheduler.
Thanks to WinCatalog 2024 disk catalog software you can automatically create and store thumbnails of graphic files (images, photos) saved in all popular formats (JPEG, PNG, BMP, ICO, GIF, Tiff, WMF, and EMF) or RAW image formats produced by most of modern digital photo cameras. You can also save EXIF data (comments, resolution, [photo camera model, focal distance, and other parameters) for photos.
This means you can preview picture thumbnails in the catalog without the need to open the particular media. And it will allow you to quickly and easily locate a photo or an image in your image and photo catalog!
WinCatalog implements both the typical search algorithm using simple queries and the advanced search using logical operators AND, OR, parenthesis and quotes - it makes the search more precise and provides exactly matching catalog search results. And since you can filter search results any way you want, you can find the desired catalog element almost instantly. Besides, search results can be grouped together using one or more criteria to find duplicate files quickly.
The main advantage of WinCatalog 2024 is extremely high operating speed while processing disk catalog, thanks to industrial database standards and SQLite DBMS. Using this advantage, you can find any object (a disk, a folder or a file) in your catalog in a matter of seconds!
Contact management allows you to control who you give a certain disk to.Tag management allows you to assign a set of keywords (tags) to every element for quicker and more accurate search. While arranging the collection across virtual folders using drag'n'drop leaving the actual file and folder structure intact allows you to manage your disk catalog better.Storage management allows you to add all possible disk storage places to the program. This could be, for instance, "box #1", "DVD holder #2", shelf for hard disk drives #1, etc., and to assign matching collection elements with every storage place. This is an enormous time saver when you have hundreds of disks and other media.
