A program which I just found recently which may be useful is IFrIT

http://home.fnal.gov/~gnedin/IFRIT/

This looks like it could provide a good way of visualising occupancy
grid data in 3D, using a simple file format. Using this program would
save me having to write a grid visualisation program myself, and it
will work on both Windows and Linux.

I already have something for 3D grid viewing, but its a very crude
system hacked together around an OCX control and uses DirectX. It's
not something that I want to continue using in the long term. In
general I want to avoid anything which would make the system Windows
operating system specific.
