I got geisha'd. I doubt it was protection, but the message said
something about taking my stuff, so there's a chance that it wasn't
investigation. Can geishas steal?

Not according to the instructions, but there's no mention there of
thievery anyway. Could you post the exact message so we can have a

The first message:
Not long after walking home you get a knock at the door. A Geisha is
standing there, offering services. You take her up on the massage with
bonuses, feeling too tense after Todomanna's death to refuse. After
all, you know how to keep your mouth shut.
and a second message:
Upon awakening, you find a little paper crane on your bedside cabinet.
You notice some writing on it, and unfold it to read the message.
"You annoyance! Why!
Why couldn't you have more stuff!
I want to take it!"
How unusual.
now that I think about it, I guess someone tried to steal from me the
same night a geisha investigated me.

Well if somebody did investigate you it's taking them a while to put
you up for death. Regardless, we have to assume that you've been
outed. The rest of us have to be REALLY careful from here on out. In
fact I voted for cb in an attempt to avoid suspicion. Not sure if
it'll backfire though.
