One of the interesting things that came up in Amsterdam, while we were
struggling with this distributed grid idea being kind of radical here
for the Western world, was that in developing areas it makes a WHOLE
LOT of sense!
This article just got passed on to me which reminded me of that:

People are already working on this stuff. Microgrids, DC grids -- we
are not pioneering this stuff, we are simply going to innovate in the
methodology of sharing, make it relevant for our own lives, and use
the tools available to us to spread the idea.
