A kit that harks right back to 67, i built it mid ,late 70s ,one of the first kits i painted when i was judged to be able not to make too much mess! I painted it white ,after i had seen a storch in winter camo in a book from the library,i always used to get war,and aircraft books out,i didn't realise back then it was early days research, many times i used to get a library fine for not returning a book on time,
Very nice, if totally inaccurate, art work on the squishy box. Not the Storch but the armour, I'm sure Rommel would have loved some Panthers and even the Elefant but thankfully he didn't get either of them.
I recently built one in a shelf of shame clearout build (in WIP), and had some adventures with the legs. Although they give you two versions, for in the air and on the ground, the actual "on the ground" length seems to be another 7-8mm shorter than their shortest, at 37.5mm. I hope your moulding is better than mine - I had to go with brass rod in the end.
I will freely admit to having bought 4 of this "Vintage Classic" edition earlier this year. I had the Storch in my "maybe" pile for this GB, but I'll happily leave it for some other time, maybe even the high wing build, should that make the grade. I have plenty of other candidates for this GB.
About that artwork though: I wonder who told Roy Cross that the Panther and Ferdinand/Elefant were used in North Africa? As I recall, both were first used at Kursk, only after the end of the North African campaign.
So it'll be mainly external bodgery ,I've cut all of the control surfaces away and thinned them a bit ,hopfully they'll take the eye from looking through the blob of clear plastic called a canopy, that as we all know is a 3 part affair, even today my canopy skills are ,lets say lagging behind,so I'm not looking forward to that, ive made a start trying to create the ribbed surface detail on one of the wings , a bit over enthusiastic in places but it'll be fettled further when i have a pair ,ultimately there will be sacrifices hopfully it'll turn out ok
,first off apologies for the lack of participation lately, and the lack of updates, this one should bring it up to date, I've only been able to snatch minutes of modelling time recently, but i have taken photos, even though I've not been online for a bit, Thanks stix, we're all well at hewy towers, i hope you and yours are fine too, i hope to catch up with everyones builds shortly
So i decided not to do the wing fabric effect and sanded that off, in fact i sanded it off all of it , i removed all control surfaces to give it a bit more interest, and refitted them at deflected angles, in a moment of daftness i bought a pe set for the academy stork and cherry picked a few bits,
HI Glynn. I'm pleased you are all well and we are too, thank you. Great to see your update of this project. I like what you've done with the control surfaces and scribing. This work is going to add a lot of interest to the finished project. And your paintwork effects look impressive too!
