Aha! Presentation Topic: "Teaching STEM Subjects Through the Power of Games." By Professor Eric Klopfer, director of the Scheller Teacher Education Program and the Education Arcade, as he discusses the state of games in education. Focusing on his lab's current major product, The Radix Endeavor, Eric will talk about the philosophies of teaching STEM curriculum through the power of games. He will also give an update on the SEPT program (for which the MIT Club of Southern California provides scholarships for local teachers). The presentation includes a hands-on activity for kids.
Presenter Bio:
Eric Klopfer is Professor and Director of the Scheller Teacher Education Program and The Education Arcade at MIT. Klopfer's research focuses on the development and use of computer games and simulations for building understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He is the co-author of the book, "Adventures in Modeling: Exploring Complex, Dynamic Systems with StarLogo," and author of "Augmented Learning: Research and Design of Mobile Educational Games" from MIT Press. He has a new book, "The More We Know", from MIT Press just out this year about the intersection of academia and private industry around technology-enabled classroom innovations. Klopfer is also the co-founder and President of the non-profit Learning Games Network.
