Dear all,
I am writing as the new elected president of the Senegambian Studies Group to ask if any member of the collective would like to submit a panel or (and) a paper proposal to be sponsored by the SGSG at the Atlanta ASA convention?
Moreover, I am writing to ask if any member of the SGSG would like to join Niklas Hultin and me on a panel on Senegambia? Niklas would like to present on something along the lines of “The Gambian 2016-17 crisis as a Greater Senegambian event.” I initially wanted to present something on the relations between Senegambian and African American Blues. But, to join Niklas’ panel, I have altered my proposal and will present on “The Role of Music in the Cultural and Political Relations between Senegal and Gambia.” I have always wanted to study the rich musical, cultural, and political ties between Senegal and Gambia and this will be an opportunity for me to begin a new inquiry.
Please find attached the proposal of the new paper that I will present at the ASA meeting and that of the panel that I have proposed. Since we need about four people on each panel, it would be great if two or even three more members of the SGSG could join our panel. Our brother Cheikh Babou is sponsoring a panel and has successfully recruited three presenters. Wonderful work Cheikh! Now we need to increase the presenters for the panel that I am sharing with Niklas.
The deadline that the SGSG gave for submissions of proposals was February 15. But we have now extended it to February 30 to give people more time to submit a COMPLETE panel or (and) a paper proposal. The SGSG would like to briefly review each proposal before the panel chairs who have submitted them to us can directly upload the documents to the ASA’s website by March 15.
Many thanks.
Babacar
