With just 24 hours until the close of the SEND consultation, what are your views for the development of services for children with SEN and disabilities? Do you think the Green Paper will be effective and ensure all children are given the opportunity of reaching their full potential? Do you think the Green Paper will be able to deliver on its aspiration?

 

There are a number of pathfinders which will be spearheading the personal budgets, the national funding formula and the joint assessment framework and keyworking opportunities. It will be interesting to see what the outcome will be over the next few months.

Please post any comments about the changes in SEND...

Hello Pearl

Just got this email, not sure if its meant for me or the reply. Hope your well and that the family are ok. How is life at the top?  All well at my end my Ofsted training has gone well, I am awaiting my shadow inspection before being signed off by HMSI and then I could be out there on my own.  Hey Tribal cover your area, but not put myself down for travelling that far as yet.

I am rather concerned about the personal SEN budgets, we were told at our PVI meeting last night that as from September they will determined the amounts to give each provision based on the demographics of eligible 3+4 year olds with an enhanced weighting for children from hard-pressed households.  Monies will be allocated termly, the provision manages the funds as a total contribution to the total resource for meeting individual needs (it will not be ring fenced!!!). Settings will be responsible for managing the funds appropriately and if you have no children with SEN its your responsibility to retain it until you have need of it.  They have however said they will be requesting evidence of appropriate use.

I suppose until the system is in place, its hard to evaluate its benefit.  But I'm rather concerned that some provisions will not get enough money to support those children with complex needs.
