Position Overview
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Entry-Level Data Analyst to join our team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early-career professionals to apply data analysis, visualization, and technical skills in support of statewide public health and environmental initiatives.
As a Data Analyst, you will assist in managing, exploring, and interpreting data sets to support decision-making, reporting, and program improvement. The ideal candidate is curious, analytical, and eager to learn new tools and technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources to support KDHE programs.
Use ArcGIS, Story Maps, and Survey123 to visualize and communicate data insights.
Explore datasets to identify trends, patterns, and data quality issues.
Assist with building and maintaining dashboards, data visualizations, and reports.
Support the development and maintenance of data workflows and integrations.
Collaborate with program staff to translate data findings into actionable insights.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental Science, Public Health, Statistics, or a related field (recent graduates welcome).
Basic proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools.
Familiarity with Java programming.
Experience or coursework involving ArcGIS, Arcade, Story Maps, and Survey123 (or willingness to learn).
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with data visualization or mapping projects (academic or professional).
Understanding of public health or environmental data.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple data sources and projects simultaneously.
