Ifyou're using Windows and you've installed a Canon driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.
1.Only the printer driver support the server OS.
Except for Scanner Driver, WIA driver, IJ Scan Utility and IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2.
Printer Driver:
1.[Windows 10/11]
Some of the settings (such as borderless printing) in the OS standard print settings screen are not valid. the settings in the Printer printing Preferences window are valid. Make settings in Printer printing Preferences when necessary.
2.[Windows 10/11]
Layout printing from the OS standard print settings screen may not be performed as expected in Some instances.
In such cases, open the Printer Printing Preferences window and change the paper size accordingly.
3.With Internet Explorer 11, a web site containing Japanese may not be printed properly. In Windows Update, update the OS and Internet Explorer to the latest version.
Scanner Driver:
1.If the OS is upgraded with the scanner driver remained installed, scanning by pressing the SCAN button on the Printer may not be performed After the upgrade. in such cases, re-install the scanner driver.
2.When MP Driver installation was stopped by the following acts with the screen awaiting connection, install it again. The installation is not completed even if plugged-in the USB cable again or turned-on the power supply again.
- To cancel the installation.
- To plugged-out the USB cable.
etc,
3.The scan from the scan button of the printer does not work when the connection is changed from the network connection to the USB connection. Install MP Driver again, and change the connection method.
Download / Installation Procedures
1. Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
2. Double-click the downloaded EXE file to decompress it, then installation will start automatically.

There are two methods I found to find and install the device drivers (one for the printer, and one for the scanner). I'll document the easiest one for Ubuntu users in the hopes that we can all learn something from this.
Note: possibly poor User interface on that web page - it is easy to miss large selection of other printer types in horizontal scrolling blue bar in middle of page. I think that is why I missed this simple solution the first time (doh!).
Installing the Canon printer on a Ubuntu Linux system is not that much difficult. A Personal Package Archive (PPA) command is available on the web that you can use to install and update the Canon printer driver on your system.
When the install finishes, you may now open your web browser and load the following localhost address. You can now find your printer name and model number to set up your printer on the browser web interface.
After installing the Synaptic package manager, please open it and find the following library tools. When the search result appears, install the Canon Cups driver tools from the Synaptic package manager.
In modern Linux distributions, a native printer driver software comes pre-installed with a printer database. Here, we will see how to use the Foomatic DB on a Ubuntu system to configure a Canon printer.
After adding your printer to your device, you can use the printer to print documents through a local area network system. You need to find the network printer to configure with your device. Ubuntu also allows you to connect the printer through the device URL.
After downloading, you need to install it through the software store of Ubuntu. If you still have an issue with your printer, you can download the source code of the printer driver and install it through installing software via the source-code on Linux.
Thank you so much for the above information
I have been trying for days to get my canon MG 3650S to connect to Zorin and finally after following your instructions it now works! Mission accomplished.
thank you again
The Canon Australia website no longer provides driver downloads and refers you to set up assistance and then tel. # where they advise you Canon no longer supports Linux. Found the driver in Canon Europe
Has anyone managed to get the old iP2600 Canon Pixma working on ubuntu20?
I still hold on to u16 because of the lack of out-of-the-box support for the iP2600.
Got it working under Ubuntu14 or even earlier, but cannot remember how I did it!
I have a relatively old Canon MF8200C. Thanks to Preeternal, the install for the printer driver _ gutenprint _ worked only after I had installed sane-utils and synaptic and then reinstalled the PPA repository, thanks to contumax, below.
Hi People
I came across this web site trying to resolve my printer problem.
Printer problem changing from Linux Mint 19 to Linux Mint 20
Printer is Canon MAXIFY MB5460 Multi-function connection via LAN
IP address was set up via front panel of printer.
Es un gusto saludarle y de paso darle las gracias por compartir este aporte a la comunidad ubuntu, me sirvio muchisimo ya que hace poco adquiri una canon g6010 y me vino muy bien el driver para la canon g6000 series ver 5.90
Unable to set up CANON PIXMA E3300 multifunction properly. Printer works but scanner does not. this is on Raspberry Pi with MX LINUX 21 FLUXBOX. Repository cannot be added as RPi not compatible. copied PPD file from RPi Ubuntu Mate is where everything works well. PPD will not install. Can anyone help please.
Worked fine on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 using Canon Pixma TS3420, the printer did what it was supposed to, the only issue I had was trying ScanGear to open the scanner, but it could not find my model, open Document Scanner and it was all there, my stupid. ThankX.
Addendum
I updated Linux Mint to 20.3 from 20.04 and the Canon MB5460 multi-function printer would not allow printing.
I finally found this site and removed ippusbxd.
This fixed the printing issue for me.
Mint 20.3 had automatically found the printer and drivers, but still not printing, so used the ipp address of the printer and added the PPD from the original Canon driver CD as per my previous comments, after I removed ippusbxd.
Hope this helps.
regards
I've been changing all margins on my documents to 0cm, but there ll be always margins showed up when I printed the documents, especially the bottom so it's always cutting off the bottom of the page. So I know it must be the driver. The automatic margin that always showed up on the bottom of the page is around 1,6 cm. There's also no option on the Printing Preferences to change them. I'm using Windows 10, by the way.
Had the same problem.
I opened it via a PDF file and checked the printer applicant. On Windows, it sets the default printer to 'XPS Viewer' which tries to squeeze the file together and so the bottom is lost. I changed it to the actual name of the printer (on the drop down list) and it worked. Although everytime I tried to print something, it automatically resets to XPS viewer and so it had to be manually set back every single use.
Changing from A4 to 'letter' as the preset seems to have worked on my old-ish MacBook Pro. Constructed a page in TextEdit with 70 lines and both pages print fine. Plus a test page from Safari worked. Let's hope this works long term.
If an inch or so is cut off/not-printed , and if the size of A4 paper is about 1 inch LONGER than letter size, then the printer has been mis-instructed as to how to size it's printing!! Changing document size to be 'Letter' size will fix it ..
I just talked with the Canon support rep. She told me that the 1.6 cm border at the bottom is in the hardware and cannot be remedied. There is no 'fix' for this. Since several models have been mentioned in this Forum with the same problem, this may be a new restriction on the desktop printers. Sorry.
I had this issue since I upgraded my PC tower and made a clean W10 install on it. Everything was working fine before that. Now The scanner is detected, and respond normally, the machine can scan and print a copy on itself, but only the scanner is detected from the PC in the devices manager.
I tried Canon drivers, none will install until the end, they stop after "device found, please wait until the end of the installation" then cycle over "Device not detected, please connect the USB cable to the printer" etc (I reconnect the printer, the utility detect it, freeze for 15 min, then again not detected)
Now I've tried manual install on virtual USB port, so the printer now appear on the list, but the error showed => 'data cant be send to printer due to current status of the printer. Check that printer is connected, try reboot etc etc'
