Hello,

1. Why is there a 'compiling macros' phase mentioned in TSE for Microsoft Windows during installation and not similarly in TSE for Linux? (there you can just unzip the .tgz and you can immediately run './e')

2. Kind of expected by extrapolation was and in TSE for Microsoft Windows you should thus see 'Compiling Semware Macros' and also similarly in TSE for Linux one should see 'Compiling Semware Macros'.

3. Most obvious would be that all the TSE macros could already be pre-compiled at Semware before zipping the to publish TSE files, so no recompilation necessary (again) at the user's machine later. So no 'Compiling Semware Macros' thus in either options TSE for Microsoft Windows and TSE for Linux.

4. Note: As a side note: That one has to recompile all his/her existing TSE macros always after using a new TSE version (e.g. 4.50.19) is of course kind of understandable because how would it otherwise implement the latest changes of that latest version.

Thanks
with friendly greetings

Because Windows TSE uses a smart installation program instead of Linux's dumb "tar" ("unzip"-like) program.

Windows TSE's smart installation program can:
- Do all kinds of checks before and during installation.
- Make backups in a new "bak..." subdirectory of things it will overwrite during installation.
- Upgrade an existing Windows TSE installation by installing a new TSE version over it.
- Retain the user's TSE settings and Potpourri menu during installation.
- Safely have a sources-only == smaller distribution file, because it does not depend on the user to recompile macros .

OK, but the proof is in the pudding that TSE for Linux gets away with all that and can do the (much simpler) installation only with unzipping.

Maybe food for thought some day or one day thus (e.g. instead 2 distributions for TSE for Microsoft Windows, one plain zip and one business as usual).

Thanks
