Just curious, any plans presently for a new update?

One feature I’d like to see is to allow for the smooth transfer of our present setup to the new version.

Years ago, I put all my custom configuration into my own .ui file, and included that (via #include ["myconifg.ui"]) immediately before the "TSE Pull-down Menus" in tse.ui.  You would of course include it in whatever top level ui file you use.  I discovered by trial and error that TSE will keep whichever settings it finds first, so you want to get your custom settings in before the ones that come with the editor.

When a new TSE is released, here is what I need to do to upgrade:

(1) in existing editor, Options - Full Configuration - Write Settings to ASCII file (my.settings).
(2) install new editor
(3) add that #include mentioned above in the new tse.ui file, and then burn tse.ui into the editor
(4) burn the settings from (1) into the editor
(5) copy over any customized macros (source in .s files), and compile them with sc32.exe
(6) recreate the macro autoload list

Takes me about 10 minutes total.  Of course, having this done completely automated would be great, but once you get a method down, it's not too bad.

although am quite happy w/ 4.40a (FYI i use console mode), will gladly have my wallet ready if/when an update becomes available.

my old brain is having pharts of late, but i'm pretty sure i've been using your editor since the early 90s when i was an OS/2 dude.

qedit, 16, then 32, bit rocked, as did TSEJr ;>)

in fact, to this day, i always i copy e32.exe to q.exe . . . b/c i'm a creature of comfort.

happy weekend my droogy droogs!!

Me too - how many "Team Tessie" survivors are still here??

If "Team Tessie" means users of qedit, then of course, that is where it all started.

Also used on IBM OS/2 later.

Copying e32.exe or g32.exe to e.g. q.exe (from 'q'edit.exe) is an interesting idea, even shorter the notation then.

"Team Tessie" was a self-identified group of users who (as I remember
doing) suggested improvements in qedit as a basis for TSE beta versions.
Time was somewhere in the early 1990s. Most of not all of us were IBM
OS/2 users.--

What I have done for many years is to set up alternate versions of
g32.exe with customized versions of the .ui and .cfg files to fit
specific clients that call TSE as an external text editor. Of course,
each version of the .exe has to have a unique name. Works like a charm.--

I'm right with you on that one, too. If I can get a TSE that handles files bigger than 2Gig, my money will be on the table in a flash.

Besides an easier, smoother ability to transfer existing settings to a new version, what other changes/enhancements might you folks be desiring?

With the new version I hope to be up and running as usual ASAP.

> I'm right with you on that one, too.  If I can get a TSE that handles files bigger than 2Gig, my money will be on the table in a flash.

* That would in general demand a 64 bits version of TSE which does not exist.
Currently only a 32 bits version is available which handles up to about my estimate 1.8 gigabytes without 'out of memory' errors.

* To search: As a workaround you can use TSE 'grep.exe' to search in bigger than 2Gig files, that works inside and outside TSE for really very large files.

* To edit: To edit very large (text only) files one can split the files in smaller parts, then load / save these parts one by one separately and unloading/quitting that part, then finally to concatenate to 1 file later use 'type f1 >> f2'.

* To edit and save splitted binary files splitted in parts is in general not recommended as it will very probably corrupt the binary file (which e.g. keeps information about its internal structure which you then probably corrupt by editing / changing the binary file).

My 2 cents for improved features, unless I am just missing something….

1.       In q.exe the macro repeat function was so easy to use.  With TSE Pro, you can record a macro but there does not seem to be an easy way to simply repeat it a number of times.  I’m sure one could save it, compile it and execute; but for quick one time macros would be nice to be able to “Run Scrap Macro” a specific number of times like you could with q.exe.

2.       Editing large files would be nice to have the file quickly load and appear in the editor.  Long ago, in the 16 bit world, I remember editors that within a second would load a large file and allow instant editing, and even be able to jump to the end of the file.  How this was done is a mystery to me but that functionality would be nice. Maybe the loaded the front and end of the file to give the appearance of quick loading?

Thanks, excited to see TSE still supported with planned updates.

* I do that requirements successfully with a 1 gigabytes file in TSE Professional version 4.41.08. E.g. Jump to end, jump to begin, in fractions of a second in general.

* If not then there should very probably an issue with the system TSE is running on.

See the 'help':

Repeats the last command or Keyboard Macro the specified number of times.
Syntax:     RepeatCmd()
Returns:    Nothing.
Notes:      The user is prompted for the number of times to repeat the last
            command.
            This command includes a history list of previous entries passed to
            it.  See AddHistoryStr() for additional information.

See the Macro menu, Record Key Macro and Run Scrap Macro.  You can simply hold down the Ctrl-Enter keys (default assignment) to replay the recorded macro repeatedly.  Not the same, I know; I also missed the old Q editor command to "repeat to end of file/block".  Unfortunately, TSE never reimplemented it.  I simply got used to holding down ctrl-enter.

There is a builtin procedure quoting from help:

>Repeats the last command or Keyboard Macro the specified number of times.

>Syntax: RepeatCmd()

I do not recall if it is assigned to a key in any standard .ui

I have a little workaround macro to repeat one time that I have
assigned to a key:

proc RepeatCmdOnce() // fkl
PushKey(<enter>) // push enter and count of 1 in reverse order
PushKey(<1>) // (so they come off stack in desired order)
RepeatCmd()
end // RepeatCmdOnce()

It can be used with any command. I often create a temporary key macro
and then repeat it with multiple key presses for the above macro.

Works great except commands that for return a result and then continue
I have not found a way to repeat gracefully. (sorry this is from
memory and I dont have time to experiment to get better explanation /
example)

Also it would be great to have repeat automatically stop at the end of
file - I often have a temporary macro to find something, delete
something near by or whatever (too complicated for a wild card).
Repeating them past the last found instance can delete things that
should not of. (again sorry for the vague description).

i thought my 4.40a was the most current . . .

is that a free “update” or is there some cost?
