Hello,

FYIO

Ken Thompson in 1968 built as the first Stephen Kleene's regular expressions concept into the 'QED' editor.

Later he built grep into the UNIX 'Ed' Editor.

The name grep comes from the Ed editor command g/re/p

which means

GREP = 'G'lobal search for 'R'egular 'E'xpression and 'P'rint matching lines

TSE has it own version of grep, using 'x' as a parameter to indicate that searching for regular expressions is wanted.

Because of the copy right year date in TSE grep
which shows

 1996

and this was the TSE version release at that year 1996:

  TSE pro   2.6           -    October   1996  First 32 bits version (=Win32) / console only.

I assume this TSE 2.6 is the first version of Semware grep released?

(I have only 2.5 and 2.8 and it appears in any case already in 2.8 (and not in 2.5))

Thanks
with friendly greetings
Knud van Eeden

I don't know the exact dates, but grep first appeared in these
products - they are _not_ in order by date:
TSE Jr for DOS, OS/2 and the TSR, v4.00E
TSE Pro for DOS, v2.50D
TSE Pro for Windows, v2.60B
