Hi,

The tool for the job is... WinDiff.
While it will not produce a file with all differences, it will provide a handy interface for finding different files, and differences in them. You will find it very useful. You should be able to find it anywhere.

cheers,
Rob.

Hi,

I am also a big fan of WinDiff. I _do_ believe that it will produce a
file with all differences. See the switches that become visible when
you start "windiff.exe /?" in a dos-box.
I used Windiff extensively called from command-files in this way.
This works for one pair of files.
If somebody knows how to run WinDiff in batch mode to operate on a
pair of directories, I will be grateful. I now have to write loops
around the individual calls to windiff.

An individual call might look like this:
WinDiff -Fslrfgx RESULTFILE File1 File2

If I remember correctly :-)

Leo and Rob, thanks for that tip and drawing the attention to it.

I checked Windiff again, and it is indeed one of the most powerful.

It also shows e.g. same (configuration) values close to each other for comparison.

windiff Directory1 Directory2
e.g. shows out of the box a list of different and non-different files in 2 directories).
If you click on any of that files, it will show the individual differences per file.

I did not find immediately commands to save all the differences between all pair
of file in a directory and its subdirectories (tried e.g. -D -T and -F command line parameter combinations).

Thanks,

Another one you might want to take a look at is CSDiff.

Thanks a lot Sammy, that looks great.

I will incorporate it also in my TSE file difference program.

(After I received your tip, I decided to look again on Wikipedia (where your often find program 'Overview' pages), and searching for 'WinDiff', I found the overview page of file comparison programs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_comparison_tools
)

Thanks,

with friendly greetings,
